finasteride is bad, but hair loss is worse. Enough with this bullshit, either take it or leave it.

Why is this discussion bullshit, and why would hair loss necessarily be worse? For you maybe. We know AR-inhibitors are bad, but the question is how bad. People should be able to make an informed decision about the risks involved, but it seems to me the risks are still far from clear. Mind you, I don't believe finasteride is literal poison, I'm sure plenty of people can tolerate it without side effects. But I don't think the studies are giving us the full picture either. We already know Merck lied and withheld information. As far as the independent studies are concerned, who knows. But a lot it just doesn't add up and I think there's value in discussing it as new studies and information come to light.

Here’s my take.

Finasteride clearly isn’t healthy. If it were “healthy” or help your system overall people without hairloss would take it. The real question is how bad is it?

From what I’ve seen and experienced, not all too bad. Sure merck lied and withheld information and sure it was probably for profit... but does the drug work? I’d say its hard to argue it doesnt work. Now does it compromise your health? To some maybe, but to the majority, it doesn’t. Also I think the percentage that get sides is probably around 10%, 15% maximum. Finasteride has been on the market for over 20 years and there have been many many good (not perfect) studies that indicate this. Also there are a lot of doctors that use finasteride for themselves... if it were 50% (hit or miss) sides rate they wouldn’t prescribe it... at least I know my doctor wouldnt as he’s a very cautious person.

If you have been impacted by the sides then of course your not going to preach the drug as it almost fucked you up but to throw out numbers without studies while at the same time denying other studies that dont depict your reality is not right.

Like I said, some of the autists here only care about their hair and not about their sexual and cognitive health.

Well and for many the psychological toll of losing your hair has a worse impact on your well being than the drug itself. You have to be willing to accept going bald and having that be a part of your identity. And having a sense of humor about it.

Depends. When you're healthy and you're losing your hair you think hair is the most important thing in the world. Then you get on fina and destroys your libido, etc.

People change their mind

Or the more common scenario is that people get on finasteride, it saves their hair, and they live happily ever after.

Because everyone totally gets sides. Of course
I know you want to believe fina and other hormonal treatments are safe for years and years. Because everyone knows long term hormonal treatments only affect your hair. Of course.

But we had this discussion many times. Agree to disagree.

Ten year studies of hundreds of men don't lie.

If you are on this site, then you consider hairloss is worse than taking finasteride or other treatments. That's just how it is.

Sure, but you're just moving the goalposts now by adding 'or other treatments'. There's plenty of people here looking for treatments that preferably don't involve finasteride. It's not the only way to go about fighting hair loss (albeit obviously the most effective way), and for some the risk that finasteride carries (whatever that may be), may not be worth it.

Quite frankly my last hope is liposomal dutasteride.

By "other treatments" i meant dutasteride, minoxidil, microneedling, HRT (yes), and just about anything that can be considered "taking actions".

I do agree about plenty of people here seeking alternatives to finasteride, but most were on finasteride prior to that, and they got sides, which is why they are seeking a different approach. It's the first line of attack recommended by many doctors and hair specialists for a reason.

Finasteride is the best in the world at what it does.
Wish there was a way to make it go less systemic. f*****g sucks I can't block systemic 5AR as in the future I will have adult acne and a lot of sebum

It's only really promoted so much because it is pretty much the only thing which reliably works. I tried it and got sides, which is why I'm here.
