How come this forum doesn't have a spell-checker? Other forums I use have the ability to run a spell check before submission.
Our spell check is the education system. :D

Sorry, incorrect usage, Bryan. Correctly used, ellipses should be a series of three dots, preceeded and followed by a space.

Using your example above:

"Many approved drugs have side-effects .... and gynecomastia in Proscar users."

Uhm. I'm sorry to do this to you again, TG, but - you fail. o_o

C'mon people; this is open book! There's no excuse for wrong answers. :)

The rules vary somewhat depending upon the source, and of course, the context to which the rule applies. However, I refer you all to Ellipses, section 10.48 of the Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed. "They [ellipses] are usually separated from each other and from the text and any contiguous punctuation by 3-to-em spaces. . . . The number of dots and the spacing between them . . . should be checked carefully. . . ." The preceding quotation was intended in part to serve as illustrative of the use of ellipses, and thus exaggerated their use to some extent.

I agree. When I look for sources of style, I most certainly do not look to Chicago. I look to New York, Paris, London, or Milan...
