Hairloss has almost stopped using only Nizoral 2%.

Hey Everyone,

This is my first time posting. Im a 27 year old male, losing hair since 21 and currently ranking a two on the Norwood hairloss scale.

After losing hair for the past 6 years - with accelerated loss the past 2 years or so - I decided to start Nizoral 2% augmented later with Minoxil and Proscar.

Prior to Nizoral, my temples were chronically itchy and I lost roughly 10-20 hairs a DAY just above the temples - in the frontal v area, where early stage typical male pattern baldness occurs.

After taking Nizoral for 5 weeks, hairloss in the above-temple area has been arrested to ONE hair a day, at most! No itching or burning.

Pretty amazing results considering I haven’t even started the Proscar or Minoxil.

Btw, I was on Proscar 2 years ago for a period of 6 months (1.25 mg/day) and lost significantly more hair on Proscar than Nizoral.

Can any experienced hairloss buffs speculate as to what treatments would be more effective for positive responders to Nizoral?

By that I mean, does a very positive response to Nizoral indicate a specific biology better suited towards certain types of hairloss treatments over others?

Thanks a lot

Hi, Im 23 been losing hair since i was 21. I've alwayw suffered from chronic inflammation on my head, but after startng nizoral 2% about 6 months ago my hairloss has completely stopped and i've even exerienced regrowth in the crown area. I currently use it 3-4 times a week but might do everyday in the futere if there are no sides to this.

I'm glad nizoral has seemed to help your hairloss. Hairloss can be a part of severe irritation of the scalp and if the nizoral has calmed the condition of your scalp then I believe it may have helped your condition this soon. Thats why nizoral, I think, should be a part of everyones regimen. There have also been studies that claim nizoral is effective as 2% minoxidil.

The active ingredient in Nizoral (ketoconazole) has been shown to have antiandrogenic properties, which _may_ be the reason why it showed favorable effects on male pattern baldness in a small French study.

I'm reminded of an old (circa 1997) thread entitled "nizoral is god!".

Never ceases to amaze me what works for some people.

If someone were losing their hair due to a problem that nizoral corrects - yes, I believe that's all you need.

Unfortunately, it's not all that simple for the rest of us.

How will it wreak havoc on my hair?

Thanks man :) We'll see what happens when I add the 5% minoxidil.

Like Bryan said, Nizorals active ingrediant is a reputed antiandrogen.

Do you have another idea how Nizoral may act to arrest MBP, besides the widely reputed antiandrogen theory?

The issue i guess in everyone's mind is whether the active ingredients in Nizoral contain Antiandrogen properties or antinflammatory properties...or a combination of both...

If this could be verified, i guess we will know of there is a link between inflamation and male pattern baldness...

i think what matters most is...
whether this nizoral shampoo is really effective in preventing hair loss as stated by thread starter.

Sorry to hear. Best of luck.

hey mate
how bout the 1% version ?

I went through a bottle or 2 of the 1% many moons ago.

I seem to remember that it smelled better and wasn't as harsh as the 2%.

Also - I recall hearing somewhere (on this site - from Cassin) that the 1% was about as effective as the 2% in terms of its hairloss fighting abiltiies.

But - if one was experiencing great success w/ the 2% - I wouldn't change to the 1%.

oh okay.
thanks man.
hmm, i think in that case, I'll continue using my 1% till it runs out..then maybe if it's quite good...i'll stick with it
else, might head to 2%. but dude, 2% is just double amount of ketoconazole content only right ?

It could be years before any definitive emperical proof is published - either for or against.

All I can share with you is my experience - which appears to be good so far.

Good luck.

that much is true. I couldn't tell you if there are any other formulating differences between the 1% and the 2% though.

(later dude! )
