hey all. just wondering if anyone else in here is starting to thin a bit and has basically NO family history of hairloss. i mean i think this is part of th reason i'm really pissed off and confused. i mean i have four uncles, all well into their forties, two haven't even receded, the other two have lost some, but hell they are in their forties. my dad is 53 and still have a ton of hair, though starting to thin. my mom's grandfather died at 58 with a ton of hair, my grandpa on my dad's side is 75 and has a receder but still thick hair. i don't get it!!! i wonder sometimes about the whole genetic factor. no one in my family even came close to starting to lose their hair in the their mid twenties. so what's the deal. anyone else have a situation like this? hell even my dad's grandfather died at 70 with a full head of hair. i have no "bald" family members period.

Go and see a hair specialist if you have not already done so. They can advice you. There is no way that I could ever say you have male pattern baldness, as it would be a complete guess and possible lie.

That's the best I can offer you I'm afraid.

Lots of guys thin out in their mid 20's and never continue. Its very common. You may never actually proceed to any major level of hair loss. Or you might, but don't knock the possibility that this may be all you'll see. Its too random to really create a rule though.

Well take me for instance.

ALL men on my mom's side, went bald. Typical star wars character (you know, that one guy with the gadget around his melon).. they had no hair on top and front at all, but that 'all the way around unit'... lol... like an egg with a paint line only around the center.

All the men on that side went bald in their early/mid 20's. I'm 27 now with thinning only on my crown/vertex, no visible bald spots just thin. Hairline is fine. So who knows.

( I never knew my bio dad but from what I hear, they all had full heads of hair on that side).

So it's one of those things man, it's hard to always tell...

I say, if you KNOW you are thinning, get on Propecia. Just like I did.

dude im gonna be 17 and im going through the same problem... damn i visited 2 dermatologist one was completely useless since he just ripped out my hair and then dusted off his gloves and said oh you see no hair fell out.

the other one was a lot better. he told me that our problem (hairloss with no family hairloss) is the hardest case to help since there is no medicine that is made just for our problem. he said he definitely saw some thinning and recommended me to continue my usage of minoxidil. he brought up ideas about me trying propecia/proscar but he told me to lay off that since im only 17.

you really need to watch out when looking for a dermatologist because there are a lot of bad ones just like doctors. ask your doctor to refer the best one he/she knows to you.

my hair has thinned a shitload from a year ago... when will it stop and get thick? good luck and if you find any answers, can you help me out? thanks

i agree, a lot of doctors don't know much about hairloss, mostly because it is not life threatening. the dermatologist i have is good i think, really cut and dry though, he's just not a bullshitter. i'm on propecia (just started into my fourth month today actually) and it seems to be helping so far. the no hairloss in the family thing is annoying, but strangely enough, when i went to one dermatologist (who i don't use anymore) when i was like 20 and notice some fallout, i said i don't have any hairloss in my family, but my dad is 53 and starting to thin a bit, she's like oh, well it sounds like you definitely have the gene for it. i'm like what the hell? who the hell doesn't have ONE person in their family with at least a little bit thinner hair, seriously lady, "you have the gene" you show me one damn family where every person in it including extended family all have perfect hairlines and thick hair and i'll give you a million dollars. so to say the least, you're right, there are some bogus dermatologists out there, just gotta find one you're comfortable with. sucks that you are only 17 :-( mine just started to become noticable (to me) at 24 but i feel for ya man, i think everyone in here does. the good news is, we have entered hairloss in a very very lucky time period, i mean propecia has only been out for like 6 years or so, so think about how lucky we are that we get to have all these tools, where there was nothing really around only ten years ago.

ps, let's get on the move with the hair multiplication already!!

some men in my family are thinning, but they all started in their 50's and 60's. I'm the only one to thin at age 21... it blows

Hair specialist = Dermatologist and NOT Trichologist
