Hello all!

Let me start by introducing myself as a male with Italian herritage. I suffer from Body Dysmorphic Disorder and have done since my early teens!

My hair never really effected me. Growing up, everyone on either side of my family had full heads of hair and i jsut assumed i would follow genetic suit. It was pretty much a gaurentee that i would have a high hairline, as my father had a huge reeceding hairline at 16 years old, yet still has a complete head of hair at 50. All on my dad sides are high hairlines and me and my sister have followed suit.

I always worry about things. And when the doctor tests me and proves i dont have a certain disease or sickness, i find something else; this case being male pattern baldness. My hair has always been fine with alot of scalp but i seem to think that my hair is thinning. I just finished my high school exams (huge stress) and spent several sleepless nights worrying and stressing about my future. This has thrown my hormones out of whack, where my Testosterone tripled, and my DHT levels came back at 3 levels above this highest possible normal range. THe most thinning has occured along the sides of my head, as well as the back a little bit. Everything has lost density in no real pattern

Here are some shots of my hair with a flash, taken from close range. I feel this will show more scalp (its the best camera avaialbe in the country right now) meaning the qaulity, flash, etc are all top notch. Tell me what you think. Is it male pattern baldness, hormone related, stress related, or naturaly fine hair that im stressing over for nothing. I was shedding 60 or so hairs in teh shower or so past few months but this seems to have stopped the past 2 weeks and gone down to like 10? Anyway please take a look! My hair grows real real fast if that means anything?

Does stress raise your testosterone and DHT levels? All logic says i shouldn't be balding but i do seem to be thinning and was shedding at one stage. My hair looks bad in the photos but thats because as i said the flash is crazy!

Can also add that this has only occured in teh last 6months or so. That was the only time i realy started to notice it. Im booked in to see a derm but not till early April and im scared it will be gone by then!

PLEASE VEIW ALL PHOTOS BEFORE GIVING AN OPINION! MANY SHED A DIFFERENT LIGHT ON THE MATTER!

How old are you? Stress does not raise testosterone, but during stressful times stress hormone is released, which is similar to what happens under intense bouts of excercise. I doubt the stressful situation has caused this. Its just coincidence. You have no idea the amount of people that have come on here with similar stories to you. They are always looking to blame something, or assume its some ordeal they recently went through. (I know because I did the same) Its just coincidence. The sooner you realise that fact and come to accept it the better. Fact is its genetic. If you suspect ur losing hair then its likely you are. Based on your pics, I think there is evidence of some minor diffuse thinning on the side of the head and some minor crown hair loss. Your hairline looks solid right now. Just jump on the Propecia band wagon dude, that will stop you from losing and probably fill in your crown.

Good Luck and stress less :)

dude im in the same boat your in. im 22 now and my hair looks like yours, well yours seems a tiny bit better than mine. For a while people didnt think anything was wrong with me because i had hair all over but it was thinning slowly. My advice would to be def hit up a dermatologist. Then get on what people love to call the "BIG 3" (propecia, rogaine and nizoral shampoo). Do your research on this site. There are a lot of guys on here that are willing to help and are very knowledgeable. Good luck! :punk:

That's the same pattern of loss I have. I'm 14.

I suggest getting on finasteride, and topical green tea and fish oil have helped me tons. I suggest those as well, even if you do get Propecia.

Edit: This also seems to be happening rather quickly, not to discourage you. It took me about a year and a half to get to that point.

You are 14 and you are on Finasteride? Do you have any pics of your hairloss man? Its might not be genetic. We are here to help.

Thanks, but I'm sure it's genetic, because my dad got the same pattern of loss.

And no, I'm not on finasteride, my parents won't let me and I don't think my doctor would either.

Hmm i still think my patter for 4 months or so of hairloss is insane. On top of that im not shedding any more? I have depression and anxiety which are all bi--products of having BDD. Realy dont no where to go from here :S

Can i say i havnt noticed any miniturized hairs? My hair still gows fast and all fallen hairs are same lenght, width and colour?

You sound a lot like me.

Okay, scratch what I said. I implore you to start taking fish oil, I promise it will help if you use enough of it.

What does the fish oil help with?

Stress can cause hair loss. I am not saying he has or hasn't got male pattern baldness, but stress and anxiety can cause the hair to shed.

When your body is stressed or anxious it demands more vitamins and nutrients. Making the hair less healthy and even causing it to shed. You need to get rid of the stress. Run, eat plenty of fruit, take vitamin tablets, and take fish oils. Just get really healthy.

I’m not saying you should or shouldn’t take Finasteride, but you need to work on reducing the stress and anxiety and the effects it has on your body.

I also have a feeling stress causes hairloss but I have nothing to back my claims.

Some of your hairloss looks like typical male pattern baldness though so I would address that if I was you.

And if you've got the m.p.b genetics you'll still go bald, healthy or not.

True. i agree completely. I was thinning on the crown, then when I went through a break up I suffered anxiety and depression. My hair shed all over. Top, back, sides and my hair was so unhealthy. I took an anti depressant and after 3 months or so my hair stopped shedding.

I already had male pattern baldness, but it was really worse. Without taking anything other than minoxidil on the crown, most of my hair recovered, the crown didn’t. That’s why I am on finasteride now.

But I agree, if you have the male pattern baldness genetics your more than likely doomed.

I still haven't seen any of these "m.p.b. genetics." Are there any specific genes that initiate m.p.b.? I know there are alpha reductase genes, and androgen receptor genes...but I don't know of any genes whose specific functions are to make people lose their hair. Not that I'm denying their existence, I just think that there's more to it than just a male pattern baldness gene.
