Hairline receding... what do I do??

Hey everyone, I'm really looking for help here. I'm 90% sure my hairline is receding and, although I caught it relatively early, I'm still worried. What should my first steps be? See a doctor? Buy minoxidil? Get a propecia subscription? I'm only 18 if that makes a difference, but I need to do something. Help please.

If I do see a doctor, is there a hair specialist I should be looking for? Or any specific kind? And what questions do I ask? Thanks for any help.

If your loss is minimal just start with finasteride, any of can write you a prescription it's just less likely if they don't know anything about finasteride/male pattern baldness. Best bet is a hair transplant Surgeon.

i dont like the side effects of finasteride...

Have you started finasteride and experienced side effects? Or are you just worried of starting and getting them?

Because, if the latter, I think people are too worried about side effects. They really only affect about 2% or less of the population, and most will go away with continued use or, in extreme cases, after stopping the medication. No reason not to try, in my opinion. My only issue with it is that I'm 18 and haven't finished puberty yet (I can't grow a beard, so, yeah, that's kind of obvious). Otherwise I would hop right on it.

Based on the pseudohermaphrodite model, if you take finasteride before being able to grow a full beard then your facial hair development will likely be slower/sparser than normal.

So what would you suggest I do? Obviously, as someone with early hair loss, having facial hair is pretty important to me. I wouldn't really wanna risk it. But I also really don't want to be a sitting duck and regret not saving my hairline when I had the chance. We all know regrowth is much, much harder than maintenance.

Do you think minoxidil would work to maintain/maybe regrow a hairline? I primarily would want it to maintain, really; I'm okay if my hairline stays the way it is now for the rest of my life. There is always the possibility of a transplant down the road too as long as I keep plenty of donor hair.

Also, do you think minoxidil would have the same effect on beard growth or other late-puberty happenings? My plan would be to use kirkland liquid just on the affected areas, my temples mainly (not my whole head; I don't have any thinning issues, as of now anyways), and probably just at night before bed, to start. Do you think that would be okay? Again, I want to stress that I don't want to be a big risk-taker when it comes to future beard growth. If there is any chance of adverse effects, I probably wouldn't try it. Not worth it. (I'm not against the other side effects though).

Yeah you can grow your beard hair with minoxidil. I've heard that the hair should keep growing because of testosterone but I'm not sure if that would happen to someone taking finasteride.

Are you saying that the best people to talk to about hair loss is a hair transplant surgeon? I'm looking into this now and was going to go to a dermatologist
