Hey Guys,

I know it is wise to have a long term plan when transplanting. I was wondering how common it is or whether it is a good idea to decide and transplant donor hair to give a good, low hairline (not necessarily juvenile) with high density + temples closed off and skimp out on crown coverage. By skimp I mean save maybe 2-3000 grafts for it in the future.

I was thinking in terms of looks it is more important to have the front framed and as thick as possible since nobody really looks at the back of your head anyways. Maybe it is possible to save 2000 grafts for the crown just in case and add a concealer when/if the crown eventually goes. What do you guys think?

PS Im 24 NW2 on propecia

What about the middle and sides? You don't want to be under construction for the rest of your life do you? Or worse. There are complications- About 50 some very serious. You know that right. Have you seen a strip removal? I suggest you do.

Well I meant to pack in as many grafts in middle and sides also but just to skimp out on the crown area so that area is thinned out and I can cover it with concealers. Btw what do you mean by "strip removal"? Im planning on FUE

Yes I am NW2 in terms of hairline. But I have noticeable thinning in NW4 or 5 style in the front, temples, and midscalp. I was thinking about doing FUE with a great Doctor, ie Shapiro, H&W etc

Okay- Well if you are showing danger signs of 4-5 and are at a n/w 2 now you will be chasing your hairloss forever . Have you seen a dermatologist about your hair yet. Another thing . I think it was limmer who so elequently put it. If you plant a bush next to another bush the leaves fall off. So in other words. Don't start planting until you have bare soil.

Im not unwilling to have several hair transplants down the road. My plan is that hopefully Propecia will slow down/stabilize my hair loss to the point that I wont be really chasing my hairloss to a great extent. I dont wanna wait till Im bald to get a transplant :(

Nobody does. I didn't I was a n/w 2 3 years ago. I have had 4,500 grafts so far and I am a thin n/w 4 now and look unnatural.Hair transplant grafts do not look like you existing hair either. There is a guy on hairsite that did what you are proposing (fue stay ahead of hairloss) that has had equal success. He is looking at body hair and repair at the moment . I think its Malster but I'm not sure. Just a double heads up. There are worse things than going bald . unfortunately H/T in the early stages is probably number one. Although its sold in reverse order. By doctors no less. Go figure.

Your results and Malsters results are they from good docs doing refined FUEs as well? Im pretty sure a good hair transplant=natural results. Are you saying that it would be unwise for me to get a hair transplant even with the top docs at this stage?

Btw Mahair did you take finasteride to slow down your hairloss? Im surprised you went from nw2-nw4 that fast if you were on meds.

Thanks for the advice

Yes, I started propecia a week before my first H/T. Now I take proscar 1/4 and use nizoral and minoxidil. I think Malster went to Jones. Who will work on anybody. You have named Two great Drs. in Shapiro or H&W .Unfortunately neither do FUE . I have talked to Dr. Shapiro about it and hes not a beleiver. Actually, and I hate to say this, but if you are indeed a candidate for transplantation Defined area of hairloss , hairloss stabilized, over 35-40 , no real hair to be cosmeticly sugnificant, expect less than 50% coverage, have tons of money and great donor. Then you might be a candidate. Oh it was not Malster who did the FUE with Jones it was a poster named Wreck.
