Hair Thinning/Loss Questions - Pictures attached

Hi everyone, I am 23 years old and have noticed hair thinning/loss at the vertex. I have talked to my doctor, and his initial thoughts were that there is no "visible sign of hairloss". However, approx. 8 months ago I did not have any thinning/loss at the vertex. About 8 months ago I stopped my 4 month prescription of Accutane, immediately after which I noticed my hair loss/thinning. I don't have loss anywhere else on my head. Does anybody have any insight as to whether or not what I'm experiencing looks like male pattern baldness? Also, for what I'm experiencing, would Rogaine/Propecia be possible alternatives? I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

Thanks for the response - but if it's not male pattern baldness, any idea what it is? I'm more concerned about it getting worse...it's been like this for a few months now - there's been no improvement/worsening.

are you sure it's getting worse? i mean are you SUUURREEE? lots of people have that kind of pattern at their crown from a very early age...

Me to Rum :cry: mine started at the crown in the same swirl pattern as my crown and it is slowly being fixed by dutasteride in a reverse pattern.

if it was a dot on one side (where the swirl is) I wouldn't be worried, but the fact that sort of a line has developed... hmm....

I've always had 2 dots (where the swirls are) - one on the left and one on the right. It seems that this line sort of bridges the 2 dots...

Just watch it very closely for a couple months, see how it progresses. If you get hint that it's getting worse, jump on the finasteride.

My hair started thinning in the same fashion, but vertically instead. But the thinning is very very similar to mine, just a wide parting w/ less density.

The good news is that I haven´t been hit by male pattern baldness much far than that.

As Drinkrum said, take a close look at it. If it goes wrong, put your *** on finasteride.

this is how mine started also, except it was more of an L shaped widening forming from the dot in the spiral of my crown, i waited a couple years and lost some valuable ground cuz of it

If the accutane gave you telogen effluvium, it could have resulted in that pattern. Diffuse thinning is usually more noticable at the crown because that's where the "swirl" is. If it gets any worse, get on finasteride, otherwise, you don't look like you have male pattern baldness (at least not yet!).

Same here my Telogen Effluvium started at the same pattern and everywhere else got diffused.Thankfully it hasnt progressed much over the past 2 months and today my hairdresser commented that it is starting to look better and thickening up again.I noticed myself the difference between my haircut 1 before last and todays haircut how darker its looking so im going to see how it goes over the next 6 months or so before i jump on a regime.

Hair Update - Pics Attached

Hi everyone, over the past month I've been experiencing shedding of around 50 hairs per day. I haven't started any treatment whatsoever, so I'm not sure what's causing this. I went through 3 weeks of heavy stress due to personal issues, but now those have been resolved - not sure if that's a factor, or even if it's weather-related with the extreme heat and sunlight this summer.

I'm thinking of setting up an appointment with a dermatologist to see what's going on. Do you guys think this is looking like hair-loss that I should get treatment for a.s.a.p., or something that is temporary and will get better on it's own? I would appreciate any input, thanks.

i think it is early signs of male pattern baldness. Not to scare you but, for some people who start thinning back there like you are, the hair continues to get thinner going forward. then the hairline starts to recede backwards and eventually they will meet to reveal the dreaded horseshoe pattern. Good news is that alot of people's hair loss due to male pattern baldness is thankfully slow, even w/o treatment. Years go by before hairloss is evident. And others who arent so lucky go the treatment route and are able to slow the hairloss. In my opinion, you should see a dermatologist and get on an anti-androgen.

It is hard to tell but it looks very much like you have a 'double-crown' - or 2 swirls as it were.

People sometimes mistake this for male pattern baldness.

I never used it but from what I can tell you'd be PERFECT for Toppik. Look into it. If you dont have anything against concealers then you could use it until you discovered a solution to the problem.
