Hair texture chained with Finasteride only? Is it my shampoo?

Hello everyone, I am 21 and I have noticed the first signs of balding last year. With my father being pretty bald, I talked to my doctor and decided to get on Finasteride. My hair originally was getting little spots towards the crown which had less hair and my hairline was never low to begin with so I thought this would be the best choice. For the last year or so my hair in my crown looked fuller and everything looked good. A few months in I began using this shampoo called "Lipogaine" from amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Lipogaine-Hair-Loss-Prevention-shampoo/dp/B004N1EQNO) which has 1% ketoconazole and thought it might be helping with the hair growing back.

I know that shedding is normal during finasteride but for the last few months I've noticed severe shedding which is starting to worry me. Towards my hairline it is becoming pretty thin and also at my crown. I don't know if it is my shampoo.. but what thought me to believe that is that my hair texture feels different now than it did before. I am getting dandruf which I never had and just running my hand through my hair makes it feel different. It feels more thin and not as much volume as before.

Has anyone else had this problem? Are there any suggestions? Do you think it is my shampoo, and if it is what shampoo would you recommend?

Thank you!

How long have you been on finasteride? Are you using minoxidil? I personally like that shampoo, but, it really doesn't matter. That shampoo is a conditioner as well, and has a lot of good ingredients for the hair fiber itself, but won't do anything in terms of balding, or diminishing hair quality. I think you're experiencing a shed and perhaps your overall density has become a bit less. This can lead to that sensation of hairs feeling thinner. Stick with finasteride. If you're not on minoxidil, I would recommend getting on minoxidil FOAM, generic brand.

I have actually been on since September 2014 and no I am not using minodixidil. I know but the texture and quality of my hair is so different now. I feel each hair follicle being thinner and weaker than before. I never had this problem before. Also my hair has dandruff and feels much lighter.

My hair texture changed as well. The balding areas the hair became like dead straws and everywhere else it became really thick and dark.

finasteride pretty much destroyed my hair quality all over my head. I'm slowly weaning off the drug now. This drug had the exact opposite effect on my hair that it is supposed to. 19 months in and I have lossed a lot of hair, on the back amd sides too, and the diameter of the hair shafts are very thin now.

What do you guys think I can do? I just feel as if the hair diameter might not be a problem but its the fact that the shafts are weak.. i am afraid that is because of the lipogaine.
