Today was a big day for me. I got a custom frontal (very small) swiss lace hairpiece delivered and my intention was to try it out on me for the first time ever as I plan on one day going the full system route. The piece was about 1 inch in width, meant to cover my receded hairline. Not really a piece you can handle well at all, but this was not meant for a long term thing, but rather an experiment.

I personally always have my hair very short, especially on the sides as the second it starts growing out it gets all wirey and not very pleasant. The same is the case for the top, though a little longer. I'd estimate 1.5 inches of growth up top. So when I got my system I cut it down to about this length when placing it on my head with the glue. Boy was I disappointed. I've heard in the past how system hair might behave this way if cut short, but I've also read and seen MANY examples where the hair was relatively short and it looked fine. (i.e.https://www.reddit.com/r/tressless/comments/60n98d/fuller_hairline_hair_piece_hair_system/).

Let me tell you this frontal was standing up so straight to the point where I don't even know how to joke about it. It looked brutal. I tried holding it down and boom it would just pop RIGHT back up straight. I then tried wetting it at one point, but had absolutely zero luck with that too. It just looked like a straight up fake wig that you'd buy at the party store.

Do you think the system was made in such a way that it was knotted poorly and led to this? Or is this really the deal with most hair systems both lace or poly? Would poly be any different I wonder? This really turned me off which is disappointing since I have been planning on going with a sytem for a long time now. Thanks.

I know nothing about partials, but my guess is they also have that “poofiness” that hairpieces have for about the first 3-4 days. Although I actually like it because it has great volume, it is actually pretty tough to style.

I wonder if this may be your issue? Bare through it until the end of the week and see if it’s any different for you.

Doesn't really matter. There was absolutely no leaving the house with this thing on. I ended up taking it off.

I've had that 'poofyness' crap with poor quality hair systems and hair systems that were too dense in the past.
I ended up putting hair wax in them to stop it sticking up and looking fake, but it made them go quickly greasy.

I find lighter density hair systems don't have that issue as much.
Mine currently is medium light 100% density.
I want to try light density 80% eventually.
