Hair Regrowth and Facial Hair

I tried to do some searches on this, but couldn't think of a phrasing that gave me results on what I was looking for. I was wondering if there are any studies or pervasive thoughts out there that show a correlation with the ability to regrow hair and one's lack of ability to grow facial hair.

This probably sounds silly, but hear me out. One thing I've noticed with a lot of my friends who've gone bald at early ages is that they have a decent amount of body hair and can grow a mean beard.

I've been thinning a bit, despite no family history of baldness. Unlike my friends, I don't have a TON of body hair, nor have I ever been able to grow much facial hair. I can get a nice peach fuzz going, but it never fills out.

I'm starting on the Big 3 and while I know your mileage will vary, I was wondering if I stand a better chance of regrowth given my weak facial hair and minimal body hair.

I know this sounds silly, but again, I was just wondering if there had been any studies on this or if people on the board had any anecdotal to add to this. Thanks.

Nope, not silly, you're right :)

I'm not sure of the science myself it's probably again something to do with DHT or testosterone, but I am looking into it!

misterE was saying to me (I know not everyone follows what he says but I think he's cool :) ) that yes once I get my body balance in check (coupled with some specific treatments targeted at DHT and scalp DHT), I will notice an increase in head hair growth and a DECREASE in facial hair growth :)

I mean I guess it makes sense when you think about it - DHT I think I heard triggers things like body hair growth and facial hair in puberty, so it makes sense that if you lower or balance it, your facial hair growth will slooowww down!

But yeah! Darn that pesky hormone! hehe :)

And yet to every rule there is an exception, especially when the rule might not be true in the first place. I'm going on a NW2.5 assuming the rest of this thinning area eventually goes and not only does my "5 o'clock shadow" come on 2 days after shaving but I've got almost zero chest/back hair and a fairly light coat of body hair everywhere else. I once decided to just say to hell with shaving and see how long it would take for me to grow a beard, I gave up after a very unsuccessful 2 months and yet my roommate at the time who still has his juvenile hairline at 27 can grow a full on Grizzly Adams beard in just a 3 weeks.

thought i'd add my experience.

i've always had patchy/little beard growth and my hair loss was super aggressive.

i'd be on my way to NW4 (age 28) right now if not for finasteride.

I actually wouldn't mind having hair loss as much if I could grow a decent enough beard, but I can't. So obviously there isn't a correlation.

Well yeah I mean it won't be true for EVERYONE. It depends if you have a high SYSTEMIC amount of DHT in your blood, or if your hair follicles are just sensitive or have a lot of 5-alpha reductase in them or something.

There are many factors. Also, often people do grow beards and things to kind of make up for the lack of hair on their heads! hehe :)

This has been covered a million times before, its just totally random, for every hairy bodied bald guy they is a smooth one and vice versa. People are just made differently there's no more of a correlation between it than there is between balding and height or balding and bodyfat. Move along, move along ....
