Hair Products Causing More Damage To Our Hair Than Not Using Them At All?

Does anyone on this site not wash their hair or use any form of shampoo, conditioner on it? Sounds strange and probably quite unhygienic to some but I've noticed my hair has so much more life to it now!

I've not shampooed my hair in probably a month now. I do it once a month or whenever I feel it's a necessity. Prior to doing this my hair was always dry, brittle and I'd suffer from frequent dandruff flakes stuck to my scalp. Now a month on my hair is completely different.. it's gone from being dry and brittle with almost no volume to the complete opposite. My hair now, has a lot of volume and even seems thicker! It also gives my hair a nice, healthily looking shine.. almost like a silky look. It doesn't get greasy because I ensure to spend a while rinsing my hair in the shower daily.

This raises the question.. maybe shampoo's and conditioners are actually worse off for our hair than we think?

I asked this question to my hair stylist and he said it depends on your hair. If you tend to have very oily hair and use thickening products it would be a good idea to shampoo them out daily but you can just use water and a conditioner. Is your hair oily in general? You just wash it with water and nothing else?

I'd say my hair is naturally dry so using shampoo's and other chemical's kind of aggravates it. Saying that, my hair care as a child was appalling.. I'd apply heaps of products daily which has likely had some effect on my hair's current condition. But yeah I only use water on my hair. I'll stand directly under the shower and tilt my head back so the water runs right through it.. I'll use lukewarm water and probably stand there for about a minute to ensure than my hair has been rinsed through. It seems to be quite beneficial as my hair (you can see from my previous posts) looks thick and healthy with plenty of volume.

I've noticed some celebrities support this too. Gary Barlow is a good example! I remember he was in the news quite a while back for telling his fans how he hasn't shampooed his hair in something daft like 15 years. Some people are very against using chemical products on their hair and I think I'm slowly transitioning towards this idea.

Another thing, I'm not sure if this is factually true as it's simply an obersation of mine to support my theory. But young balding males seem a lot more common today than it was during the early 1900's. When you look at old photo's from those times you will rarely see a young bald, balding man. I think all the chemicals and sulphates we use on our hair is likely a factor in this as it aggregates and potentially speeds up the process of male pattern baldness, thinning in a person. All this products containing all sorts of different chemicals, acidics and sulphates can't be doing the cells in our scalps any good when being applied daily.

My hair is extremely oily. Same as my face. If i dont wash my hair it looks dirty. I need the shampoo that makes it dry. This ensures that my hair doesnt fall out as bad when its oily. Just my observation.
