Hair loss without miniaturization

Especially in the crown area, does hair loss always follow miniaturization?

Or would the hair be thick and then just fall off and never grow back?

Sometimes you just goes through big shed and hair just doesn't grow back......some areas especially the temples goes through miniaturisation....
