Not a day goes by without thinking about hair loss. I even find myself regularly taking pictures and 360° videos just to keep up with the state of my hair. I know that hair does not go that quickly, but I feel like it does. I feel like I need to be on top of it as much as possible.

Does anyone else get really self conscious when they bend their head down? I hate revealing that top-down view — it's the worst bit. The side view isn't too bad, but when light beams down on your balding dome, it's there for all to see.

Stairwells are a problem. If I'm at the bottom of a narrow one and there is someone at the top, sometimes they will let me walk up first. I hate that. It means for a few seconds they get to stare from a 40° angle of my scalp.

Walking outside buildings when there are visible people on higher floors is another. You see them through the windows walking in a corridor and again, you know they get that hideous top-down view of your head.

Restaurants when they have spot lights hovering above the tables. I will always pick the darkest spot on a table so it lights up my scalp the least.

I'm sure to a non-hair loss suffering individual, they would completely mock and ridicule what I've just said, but only people like us really understand the depth of these things.

Any experiences you have like these?

Wearing hats is another. If your hair is thin, wearing a baseball cap for a prolonged period will flatten the hair so much it will make your balding appear 10 times worse. That's why I avoid wearing them unless I know I will have access to a toilet with a mirror where I can spent many minutes ruffling up my hair and fixing it.

Another: avoiding getting the hair wet in the swimming pool. Not wanting to put my head under water due to the way hair clumps together when wet, leaving more scalp exposed.

I’ll also add to the list: counting each and every strand that falls out of my head, constantly checking hairline and part for any signs of regrowth, contemplating how I’d like to kill myself everyday, stopping at crossings and telling myself that today is a good day to toss myself in front of oncoming traffic etc

I hate even having showers and seeing the state of my hair afterwards

I do the finger thing with my hairline. Where you line up your index fingers on the temples in line with the central part of your hairline. Then you spot to see how much recession there is. Interesting how it's often asymmetrical. My right side definitely went quicker than my left because there was a noticeably bigger gap behind the finger on that side. The other side catches up eventually I hasten to add.

Tell me about it. Due to my own obsessions with hair loss, I find myself judging strangers by their hair. It's the second thing I look at after a brief glance at their eyes to see where they are looking.

I was in McDonald's earlier today in a que and I was so paranoid people were staring at my crown thinning.

I too suffer with acne and have been on antibiotics, differin and a retinol serum for 6months and now I've just found out that vitamin A (e.g. retinol and differin) can cause hair loss. So now it looks like I face the decision of whether I want to have oily skin with acne or be bald lol. Sucks.

I am so angry that there is still no cure for baldness i cant even describe it, even if there was a cure all the hair transplant hospitals and companies wouldnt let us know just because of $$$.My receding hairline destroyed my life in the last 8 months i swear...

Yep, but 8 months is nothing compared to 10½ years in my case and even more in other people's cases. I don't want to make you afraid, but the brutal truth is you are likely to carry on worrying about it for a lot longer. That's why it's important to take medication to give yourself some kind of physical and psychological stability, even though it is not perfect by any means.

My left side has always been worse. I think everyone is like that.
