Hair loss or just high hairline?

Lately i have been very concerned about my hair. Getting some comments from friends and stuff like that. My first thought were to start doing something about it (propecia & rogaine). Although my hairline always been quite high, so my thought now is that it might not be hair loss.

Here is a picture:

3IoN356.jpg

Not the best pictures, but best i could find on myself. The one to the right is when i was 17 and the one to the left i took today (20 years). As you can see it is quite thin around the sides, otherwise my hair is very thick. I did dye my hair before and therefore the thinner hair might look a bit thicker. Notice that i do have a lot longer hair at the moment that might affect the volume.

Worth to say that i have NO hair loss in my family. My dad got a straight hairline right above his eyebrows lol. My mother and my uncles on my mothers side have quite high hairlines, but not as high on the sides as mine. I have never noticed that my hair have been falling of my head (like in the shower).

So what do you guys think? Just high hairline or might it be hair loss?

Anyway i have order following stuff:

Kirkland Minoxidil 5%

Nizoral shampoo

Biotin vitamins
Multivitamins (that is good for the hair)
Shampoo and conditioner for hair reconstruct

Do i take any risk by taking this stuff? Thinking mostly about the Minoxidil and the Nizoral.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm pretty sure that is hair loss. The receded area looks larger in your second pic than it does in your first pic. Has your hair always been like that though? Maybe you can get some regrowth though.

Yeah man you are thinning :( male pattern baldness genes are so common I'm sure everyone has a relative that has thinning hair. Looking at your family members isn't an accurate way of forecasting whether you will have it or not unless they have hair that is exactly like your.

I don't know, I'm pretty sure if you have relatives who went bald it's a good indicator that you may also go bald..

Also, does anyone notice his hair seems to be thicker in the second pic?

I don't understand it when people say "I always had a high hairline". There is a difference between high hairlines and receded temples. If you had a naturally high hairline, it would not look like a "U" shape at the temples, it would look like a hairline that was "higher" but still pretty straight from left to right.

Well, there is such a thing as a high hairline.
But to the OP: try not to freak out about it too much. I would do what I'm doing: get on Propecia. That way you can maintain what you have, and maybe get some regrowth. You have to establish a foundation. Then, if you're greedy, you can start with Rogaine to get more regrowth. But the point I'm trying to make is that Rogaine doesn't stop hair loss. So what's the point of growing new hairs in the receded areas if you're going to keep losing hair?

As i said, the first picture (blond one) is how the hair is now and the second one is 3 years back. My bad for putting them the wrong way!

Meant receded temples of course. Grammar mistake by me :)

Yeah i would say that my hair been looking pretty much the same for the last two years. It is a bit hard to say although because i colored my hair darker before that is why i believe it looks a bit thicker as well.

Worth being said is that ive just return back home from traveling for 1 year. That means a very unhealthy lifestyle. No training, no vitamins, a lot of junk food and not a lot of showering haha. So first of all i am going to start with a healthier lifestyle. It is in the middle of the winter as well which means that my hair is more dry and damage than normal. Anyway i am going to start with the products that i posted and see how it goes.

Dont really want to start with propecia just yet because as i said i have never noticing "loosing" any hair. Not even after the shower when i rub it very hard with a towel. I got a time at the doctor i January, so i wait for his response before thinking about propecia. To be honest i am not to concerned about it at the moment, since the rest of my hair is quite thick so it is very easy to cover it up and getting a lot of compliments about my hair lol.

Thanks for the answers guys and i will keep you updated how it goes!

But that indent on the left side of your head...have you always had that? I mean...if you look at pics of yourself at like 13, did you always have that? I'm curious to know.
For instance, here's a pic of me as a toddler: http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/2157/6w8i.jpg
I always had a higher hairline, so I know what you mean by having a high hairline, but that high area is now one of the areas that is receding now that I'm older.

Go see a hairloss specialist! And hairloss usually has nothing to do with diet and lifestyle and everything to do with genes. It can happen to anyone if they get the right (or wrong) combination of genes. You have had some temporal recession, that's for sure, the good news though, is that your hair does actually still look good. Listen to Ryukil, try Propecia/Proscar. It's the most important drug for preventing any further hairloss.

Dude the point i'm making is that almost every family in the WORLD has a balding relative because male pattern baldness is so common. If your cousin has black curly hair and is balding, but you have blond straight hair you can't use him as an indicator on whether you have the genes or not.

my temples aren't this receded, but I'm totally aware of the fact that I have hairloss, so I started to use minoxidil and ketoconazole, I would sugest the same to you, the sooner you start to save it, the better chances you have

Quick update. Picture is kind of ****, my new phone actually got a worse camera lol...
There are some difference but the new hair is kind of thin, but with a bit of toppik it looks fine.
This new picture is after 10 months with Minoxidil, Proscar and Nizoral. Only use the Minoxidil in the evening because it makes the hair greasy and looks like ****.

Think it is going to get better by time or is this as good as it gets?

Like what, a dermatologist? You'll get more information about hair loss from anyone on these forums thats been around for more than a year. Most dermatologists have never even heard of finasteride... they're useless.

Looks like good progress. You don't have that uneven hairline anymore. Did you get any sides from the Proscar?
