Hi I'm new to this forum and I am desperate to find a solution to my hair loss problem.

I'm a thin 40 year old 6' tall person with a small oddly shaped flat backed head, so for me to lose all my hair is more devastating than for others I've seen on here. I've browsed through the forums and saw that the others here can still pull off a bald look without looking freakishly abnormal like me. The only thing keeping me from looking like golum is my hair, and even my hair isnt all that.

I'm currently taking thyroid support supplements, hair nutrition vitamins, dht blocker vitamins, and 2 types of anti hair loss shampoo.

I really dont want to take propecia, finasteride or rogain, due to side effects.

I can't believe that in this day and age with the medical knowledge we have, there is no solution for hair loss. Is this some kind of conspiracy like with cancer?

I heard putting castor oil on your head every night helps, or massaging bananas onto your scalp, or even laser combs. *sigh* I feel like such an idiot. Does anyone have any insights?

Yeah it really sucks that we don't have any better low risk options to regrow hair. Unfortunately finasteride is the only medication that deals with the root cause of hair loss by reducing DHT. Only about 2-5% of men get side effects (according to the official clinical studies at least), so you could try it but I understand if you are hesitant about it. Rogaine doesn't have the risk of sexual side effects as far as I am aware of, I think the only complaint I have heard about it is that it may cause heart palpitations in a small number of people so you could try that. You could try to save for a hair transplant too.

Try it . If there is side effect just stop taking it . Start off with lower dosage

Ok 1st finasteride is very low risk. There is a vocal minority online who complain about side effects, most are actually due to age or the placebo effect rather than the actual drug.

What sides can you get from Rogaine that you are worried about?

The reason we haven't found a cure for hair loss is because the hair bulb is incredibly complex. It is actually just as complex as any other organ in the body. On top of that we only understand part of why men go bald - DHT sensitivity. We still dont understand why this DHT sensitivity is increased with age.

Neither Rogaine nor finasteride are cures for male pattern baldness. Minimal results. Nobody gets a full head of hair

Very true but the do stop/slow down the balding process.

Any medications either current or future can only help you keep the hair your have. Nothing can or will ever “cure” male pattern baldness because nothing can revive dead cells.

Once a hair is gone, it means the follicle is dead. There will never be a way to revive a dead follicles. short of a transplant nothing will ever be able to put hair back on a bald area.

Again hair is actually very complex as complex as heart liver or kidneys. Think of balding in the same way you think of any other generic disorder. It can be treated but not cured
