Hello,

I've been following this forum quite a while. My story started in February when i first realized something is happening to my hair. I kind of had the feeling that im loosing more hair than n general. Everytime i would go with my hand through my hair i would have some hair in my hand left what i never experienced before so i became more attentivly. By that time i had longer hair and would quite often go trough my hair so as i said one day in february i realized hair in my hands. At first it didn't bother me but it didn't stop at all and it became more and more hair so 2 Month later i decided to see a dermatologist about that. After doing some blood test everything came back fine we talked a little bit about me and lifestyle. I told him that i have lost somewhat like 40lbs in 4 month and have male pattern baldness in my familyhistory. I told him that my brother took finasteride for more that 10 Years and it helped him very good. But my derm didn't want to prescribe me finasteride because he thought its because of the extrem unhealthy weight loss and gave me some minoxidil and wanted to see me month later again to see if it worked out by it self.

So 2 Month later i saw him again and told him that i didn't like the minoxidil and stopped using it after 2 or 3 times (no extra shedding) and wanted to get on finasteride because by now my hair became pretty worse. Im diffuse thinning on my scalp except the sides and back and lost pretty much like 50-60 % of my hair in that short period of time. I used to have really thick curly hair now all i got left is thin hair.

So what do you guys think could this rapidly hairless due my weightloss or did the male pattern baldness in my family just kicked in pretty aggressive and fast?
I just got on finasteride 1mg to prevent further loss and may be win back some of what i have lost.

I really would like to hear your guys opinion on that.
Would be great!

Chances are its male pattern baldness unless your losing hair in areas not typical of male pattern baldness. Stick with finasteride imo.

It is far more likely to be male pattern baldness than due to weight loss, especially given your family history and your lack of hair thinning at the back and sides of your head. You need to stay on the finasteride. It is your only option, in fact. Without finasteride, you will continue to go bald.

Yeah in general my sides and back are not thinning but if I pull at my backhair or side hair I have some hair in my hand is that normal?
