Hair loss due to trying to grow facial hair?

I can't grow facial hair naturally so over the last year I've been using a product called Hair A-Gain. The product contains minoxidil so it's intended to grow hair on your head but the pharmacist I bought it from said it should work for growing facial hair too. So I've been applying it to my jaw and lower cheeks over the last year. It works. I have a decent and noticeable scruff which I'm happy with.

However I've been shedding quite a lot of hair on my head over the last month and I'm wondering if this could be the result of a possible increase of androgen in my body caused by this product. As you guys may know, androgen is responsible for causing body hair growth but is also necessary for the development of of male pattern hair loss.

It's really confusing b/c this product is intended to grow hair on your head (as it contains minoxidil) so I don't understand how applying it to my face will cause hair loss but I'd like to hear what you guys think anyway.

thats a crazy idea. if u were putting it on ur head then u could expect shedding b4 it regrows hair, but just from putting it on ur face there should be no associated hairloss on ur head.

I knew it would sound crazy when I wrote it but on some level, the increase in androgen to grow facial hair which in turn causes hair loss made sense to me. :dunno:

And this is probably unrelated but may contributed to my crazy idea is how I often read about how people notice an increase in facial/body hair when they start losing their head hair.

What people are trying to say is that Minoxidil does not alter DHT (the main culprit) levels in your body at all, it works via a completely different mechanism.

Other treatments such as Finasteride do.

I'm not sure people notice themselves getting more body hair as they suffer hair loss, i think people make the observation that people who already have lot's of body hair seem to suffer from Male pattern baldness.
