See how thin it is in that area, Ive got a doctors appointment on the 20th. Is this even male pattern baldness cos i thought i would never lose my hair in that area if it was, especially past the side burns. Ive got some finasteride and rogaine but i wont take till ive seen the doctor.

Others will flame me, but to me you have male pattern baldness. The second pic with your hair wet is scarey. At the very least your hairline has very much matured. I would recomend propecia, minoxidil, and nizoral.

You know your body more then anyone else on these forums. If your hair was thick and healthy, you wouldn't even be here, would you?

You must choose, follow my advice and keep a nice hairline, or gamble. You don't notice your hairloss until you lose 50% density. Others will suggest you wait until you lose 50% density and be at the point were you will never get your current hairline back. It is then in which others will recommend you finally start fighting male pattern baldness.

yes, it looks unusually thin on the sides. Talk to the Doctor about starting treatments, unless he gives another reason for the thinning

My hair is exactly thin like that on the sides and i cant understand it. Could it be that we are not suffering from male pattern baldness? It really hit me yesterday. I always buz the sides so it is not noticeable but once they grow a bit you can notice the thinning. I was never worried about this part. Shall we try applying minoxidil on this spot too? Please keep us up to date on what your doctor tells you about that.

no my dad's hair is thin all over his head and he has male pattern baldness. There's no real super thin areas in the areas that have hair, it's more just a general thinning all over.

Dude, go and get some bloodwork done. Your sides definetly look unusual. It may be well possible that you have both male pattern baldness and some other health related hair loss. At first we can´t do anything for you.

Good Luck, mate!

Dude...you have nothing majorly wrong. Genetics and some general thinning.....Cut the sides shorter and dry it will look fine. You probably will have overall diffuse thinning later in life. My sides are very similar to yours.

Yeh guys ill keep you all updated, but to be honest my hair was never this bad until about a month or 2 ago where it just started thining drastically. Thats why im wondering whether its male pattern baldness or not. Im hoping that it is a health problem that can be sorted if not then im straight on the finasteride to try and keep what i have. Ive already started using minoxidil today so hopefully ill be able to have some regrowth on the sides. What I cant understand is why im seeing loads of thining on the sides and none on top as far as I can tell. Also my hairline does not look to be receding. Perhaps its the early stages of male pattern baldness in which case i will try to maintain what I have. Whats annoying is the fact I have only started to look after my appearance since I turned 18, I have only just turned 19. In the last year I have lost 4 stone and started to go to the gym about 6 months ago. My body is starting to look decent but now this starts happening, its pretty gutting. Have only been styling my hair for the last 6 months and appreciatting it. The irony is when i was in school and I was ugly my appearance never bothered me, I even used to joke to my friends how it would be good to be bald as I would never have to wash my hair again and just sponge my head clean instead. Well the irony is it looks to be happening. Think I have jinxed myself tbh. :(

What is your genetic history with male pattern baldness?

Both my grampas are bald, the one on my mothers side and the one on my fathers side. I have no uncle on my mothers side so no one to look at there. My dad and his brother (my uncle) both have plenty of hair in their early fiftys. Was hoping male pattern baldness wouldnt skip through to me.

hi bob,

heres my short story well about the gym thing.

I started training at 1999 at the gym i had thick nice asian type hair (im a wog) anyway come about 1 year later after training my hair started thinning out and lost alot of hair count. At the time my hormon levels where all fucked up i had issues with temper and sex drive there was to much.... :) i did not take roids just when your at the age and trainning your levels can come out of wak... i started training at 21....

I would go get a blood test done for all type of links to hair loss and hormon levels....

Dry and curley hair looks illusionary thick. Once he wet his hair and gave us a good profile shot, we can see how his front has taken damage by the deadly DHT.

Considering his age and genetics, I'd bet he is male pattern baldness.

(Man, I hate telling people they have male pattern baldness, its like letting an accused prisoner know they have been sentensed to death, but worse)

Okay mate, i know this may be wrong but i had a friend like you and had strange thinning on the side of heads and overall hair just starting going strange.

Well you just mentioned that you srtd gym and lost 4 stone, and from bodybuilding for many years i do many newbies in the gym who lose weight drastically. Your weight loss if (and im only guessing) due to eating much much less than you were previously used to. I have known many individuals who were fat and then starved themselves and lost a tonne of weight - however, they thought it was okay to survive of a few peices of fruit a day.

Anyway, i think your hair loss at teh side of your head is due to starving your body, like i said my friend had the same thing and he was litterly only eating protein - no carbs or fat.

Anyway get back to me and maybe i can help you with some nutritional advice.

Tbh im not sure whether my diet is that bad, I always eat plenty but mainly the same stuff all the time. Maybe my diet isnt varied enough, and if anything I barely eat any fruit or veg. The only time I starve myself is whilst I am in work on the weekend. I do tend to lose a few pounds after the weekend and my weight is continualy up and down by a few pounds to half stone.

You lost a lot of weight, that may has caused your hair to thin, maybe you should see a doctor and get a professiona opinion.
