Hair Cuts and Hair Damage

Certain hair cuts are not healthy for the hair. If one uses clippers all the time for hair cuts, they pull the hair out. Over time, they also pull out the roots of the hair.

I often see this in consults when a patient has been shaving the hair on his head for 5-10 years. By this time, he is often a poor candidate for a hair transplant, because he has depleted his donor tissue.

This type of hair loss is clearly TRACTION ALOPECIA. In other words, by mechanical trauma from the hair clippers and persistent shaving, and the subsequent shock to the scalp, many roots or the genetic material falls out.

For this reason, I always recommend scissor to cut the hair on you head, even if the style is short hair. Do not deplete your donor density and accelerate your hair loss by TRACTION ALOPECIA. Dr. Antonio Alvi Armani

Crikey! I've been buzzing my hair with clippers for about a decade now.
Could traction alopecia be the reason why I'm diffusing all over?

Bullshit. Since when has shaving your head with clippers and a guard ever actually even hurt? I think you'd be more likely to damage your hair just buy putting on a tight hockey or motorcycle helmet than you are by constantly shaving your head. Graspin at straws here guys...

Even if that was true, how often do you get your hair cut anyways?

I've been cutting my hair about once a month to keep it at the same shortish length.

Yeah I guess so "clippers grasping and pulling at hair-straws" that is. Result : the dreaded traction alopecia and eventually a solid Norwood 7 :freaked2: ...... J/K
I was just surprised at how this Hair-transplant specialist : Dr. Alvi Armani, apparently takes it seriously enough to take the time to wrote it as a topic on his website

maybe those who buzz their hair, do so several times per week as opposed to once or twice per month?

I read that on that hair transplant site also..

I dont think it's true at all.. the only way the clippers are really going to pull hair is if they're old and dull..

in any event.. i've been using clippers around my sides and back for about 15 years.. and it's thicker than the top of my hair.. go figure.
