I visited Dr Shahmalak at the crown clinic for some advice on my hair shedding. I basically have what would be described as a mature hairline but just thinning quite a bit now. He basically told me to get on Propecia. So I did my research, my girlfriend is a pharmacist so she helped me look through studies online and our verdict was the chance of any major side effects were extremely minimal from the studies we read. So I got a 4 week supply and was quite happy to take it. Around 10 hours after taking it I experienced a pretty awful headache. I didn't attribute it to the Propecia so kept on taking it. I had to stop after day 8 because the headaches were continuous, Propecia was the only thing I had changed in my lifestyle so I had to stop and see if it was causing me problems. I'm a couple of days off it and I don't feel 100% better but no where near as bad as on it. I'm pretty gutted I have a side effect not many are reporting.

So, now my options are wait until I feel 100% and then wait a month start it again and see if its the same outcome.

or

Try something else. I have a symptom which is a really itchy scalp, could this be inflammation? Should I try Nizoral shampoo to try and calm that? Could I be shedding due to a scalp issue, the itch is all over my head not just the areas commonly associated with androgenic alopecia.

Thanks guys

Adjusting, your body is adjusting to A new drug and there are a couple changes it has to go through in this adjustment phase. If that's really the ONLY side effect, take Advil when you really need to and try to make it through a month, if the headaches persist for s f*****g month it's reasonable to quit the drug.

I appreciate that, this was also the advice from my gf as a pharmacist. However, I couldn't carry out my job properly so I had no choice but to stop and see if it is the finasteride causing the issue. i'd like to try again once the headaches have subsided, just to try and prove it.

Any advice on the symptom I am experiencing - Its an itch all over my head, isolated usually to one place at a time, right now for example it is right at the back of my head (usually described as the donor area)

Thanks
