There's this fellow in our IT department here at work.

He's in his 20s, with a clear NW3, and really probably more of a 4, except I can't see much thinning on the back of his head. He still wears it short, spiky, blonde, and gelled. Think Dexter Holland from the Offspring. He's also pretty chubby and not the tallest guy in the world, but he carries himself with this sort of immense confidence that I can't even begin to describe.

Another guy - he's 23, NW3, and wears a long ponytail that reaches down to his shoulders, pulled back. Same confidence.

They still both have impossibly hot chicks on their arm. Especially the first guy.

I know what you're saying, NW3/4 isn't the same as a horseshoe, and I acknowledge that, and they would both look pretty stupid if they tried the same things with a NW7, but it's still hair loss just the same, and they're pretty much saying "f*** it all, here's my receding hairline, deal with it." They don't even attempt to hide it, in fact they have hairstyles that EMPHASIZE it. And it seems to work for them.

The first guy isn't even all that good looking, with or without it (I've known him awhile.)

Anyone know people like this, or are they flukes? They kind of have the Jude Law attitude going on.

Whats wrong with NW3? Most folks just see that as "mature".

Didn't think there was anything wrong with it myself, but I didn't know how women, or guys that aren't norwood watchers or HLTers considered it as "balding" or not.

Ok, cool. I think its only on here you're "bald" if you're NW2/3 !

As for the topic well I stilll see lots of guys carrying on with their style regardless of what state their hair is..I saw a guy in a bar a few months ago who was NW4 I'd say but was sporting a swirly rock star haircut (like a member of the Strokes or something complete with skinny jeans etc) cos he still had what was left so long and full of volume. A combover is a combover but this guy was wearing it and strutting about the bar like he was Jagger.

If these guys are looking in the mirror and saying it looks acceptable to them then who are we to question it? "just shave it, man" doesn't work with everyone as we know.

I'm an NW2 myself at 26. I feel I'm past the mature hairline level but the recessions are also less than an inch so I'm not really NW3 either. The hair that's there is thick and solid and the hairline is low. My derm said everything was ok but I wonder if I could still pull off my Thomas Dekker style bangs if I got much higher.

What exactly is wrong with that??? Short hair is the only look that suits me, so I don't understand where your confusion comes from?

I'm not blond and I don't particularly spike my hair, but I do put on a bit of gel/wax to give my hair a bit of volume on the top.

Especially the first 10 days after a haircut I'm pretty much the same, my receding hairline is in the open and I don't try to hide it. Short and neat haircut is the way to go.

My hair style follows a 30-40 days cycle. The first 10 days, I wear my receding hair with pride. The next 2-3 weeks, my hair gets into an OK-ish shape. After about a month, the sides start getting too heavy and I hate that look. When I reach the point where the sides look too thick, I know it's time to have a haircut.

Two of my favorite proud NW3s.

The second guy is Zane Lamprey, host of Three Sheets (one of the best shows ever, google it!)

Anyway, during the course of his show, going from season 1 to season 3, you can watch him noticeably recede  He starts off about a NW2/2.5, and by the third season is a NW3. It's kinda scary actually.

Well... Simon's hair is actually much worse than in that picture. Those shots are taken after some careful styling. See how his hair looks rather full on the top, in reality he doesn't have that sort of volume.

When I look at Simon Pegg, I see a balding guy. He may not be "bald", but he's almost there.

I don't know who the other guy is, but his thinning isn't bad at all. He does have recession which makes him look "distinguished" :dunno:. "Normal people" wouldn't even consider him as balding.

Flea has the best looking NW3 ever, and its been that way for about 15 years. I'd bet that no one outside of bald men thinks of him as bald/balding. I don't think he's "balding" any more. His hair looks fine.

So they should be ashamed...is what you are basically saying? and by that logic, I should be two or three times as ashamed as them because I am an nw5. You don't have to worry about me though...I know my place, keep my head shaved and wear a hat all the time. I would hate to offend anyone's aesthetic sensibilities and make a fool of myself, so I remain hidden...living only half a life but safe from judgement.

You consider those guys a norwood 3? i would say norwood 2.5. They have a decent head of hair and are right to not be bothered by their hairloss.

I don't think Neil Fallon is a deep NW2, it looks more like a NW3 closing soon in on a NW4.

I know this guy who's a NW7, he's the most confident/arrogant prick I've ever met and he always gets laid.
