Got the verdict from the hair transplant surgeon

I just got back from a consultation with a hair transplant surgeon for my case of diffuse mbp — you can see pictures at the following link:

http://www.hairlosstalk.com/interact/viewtopic.php?t=68370

The diagnostic is that I have a 30% loss of hair on top of my head and the advice I got is not to get a hair transplant surgery because it could make the “oldâ€￾ hair to fall. The doctor gave me a subscription of Proscar (which he told me will cost me 1/4 of the cost of Propecia).

Right now, I don't know if I should take the medecine or not... From what I've understood, I'd have to take them for life if I want to keep the 70% hair still standing on top of my head.

So I'm thinking of going for the buzz cut and not interfering with nature... and eventually paying for a hair transplant is a cost I could not afford. Btw, I'm 42.

Anyone has any advice for me?

Thanks!

Ben.

Propecia\finasteride\proscar is the most effective and first line of defense. I'd immediatley jump on it if I were you.

If you're into the idea of a buzzcut, I'd say take a look at scalp micropigmentation. You wouldn't necessarily have to shave your hair to the skin with your case of hair loss as there aren't any slick areas. The procedure works perfectly with existing hair and it's way cheaper than a transplant.. Check out the gallery on www.hishairclinic.com

It could even work with your hair long- it just reduces the contrast between the hair and scalp.

I would give finasteride a try. I know the idea of having to take it daily for potentially a long time scares many people. But have you ever thought about how much time you spent brushing your teeth? You want tooth-decay? No, so you brush them. You want hair-decay? No, then try finasteride. Yes, then let it happen. You're 42 but losing it still is not nice.

You can also start at a low dosage of finasteride and see what it does. I'm on finasteride and minoxidil in my forth month now and it is a miracle. It is a really good feeling seeing less hair fall and getting some of it back...btw I'm 34.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link, stableforehead. However, I prefer the “beforeâ€￾ rather than the after... Seems much more natural to me!

If you have no problem letting your hair take its natural course then that's brilliant. If you were interested in making your thinned hair look fuller, take a look at this http://www.baldingblog.com/2011/05/10/u ... th-photos/. I know you're not a transplant patient but the same rules apply I guess. The pigmentation can also be safely and easily removed by professionals with no scarring.

Thanks everyone for your input! I really appreciate it. I'm really on the fence as to take the Proscar — I mean, is it really worth it? — or let nature take its course.

If you can cope with being bald there is no reason to take this poison(finasteride). What will happen if you will get post-finasteride syndrome knowing that you could live without hair and now you are fucked up for life?
