Hello All,
I began taking Finasteride 1.25 mg per day at age 27 as I thought I saw my hairline receding. I stayed pretty consistent with the dose over 13 years and only had a few 3-4 month spans in which I couldn't afford the pills.
I have recently relocated for a new position and it's been a year since I had the time to make an appointment with the new Dr. to get the prescription again.
That said, I haven't noticed much loss at all and I still have more hair on my head than 99 percent of my 40 year old friends. I also have a twin brother with a hairline similar to mine and no bald spot and no thinning of hair at this point. I have very thick hair and no bald spot on the back of my head.. Basically, I still have as much hair as I did when I was 27.
I'm beginning to wonder if I even needed to be on it in the first place. Should I notice any losses after being off of it for 12 months?

I should also note that I was on the wrong dose for about 11 months before going completely off of the pills. The Dr. had mistakingly written me a prescription for 1mg pills and I was cutting these into 1/4 pills instead of cutting 5mg pills into 1/4 pills. So I was taking a very small dose and didn't even know.

I have an appt. for a physical in a few days and I am debating whether or not I need to get him to write a prescription.
I should also note that I had very few side effects from the drug except for some itchy oily scalp at the beginning and a little shedding for the first few months.

I have attached an image of my current hair.

I'm assuming that I now produce less DHT than when I was 27? If this is the case, could it be that I've weathered the storm and can now be off of finsateride?

If your not losing hair why are you on it again? I dont know why you even started propecia in the first place if you were not seeing hair loss. Its pretty obvious IMO if your really going bald you cant miss it
I wouldnt take finasteride for absolutely no reason just in case. Wait until you see obvious hair loss somewhere or get comments from others that your going bald then take action.

You could have taken a picture of a dog and it would be as relevant as the dark, blurry, picture you posted at judging your loss.

This is why it is so important to find a competent hairloss specialist who is able to carry out routine miniaturisation checks on and around the hairline to determine if hairloss is going to progress beyond whatever recession one may have. Unfortunately for me these do not exist in my city or even country so I have had to take finasteride just in case. It is very likely you were never destined to recede much further.

Can you post some better pictures of your hair? Although it is hard to tell, it does look like you have some recession which would warrant the use of Finasteride to keep it at bay. I think you just had very non-aggressive male pattern baldness.

If you were for sure losing it then taking it for prevention was still the right call. You cant regrow hair. Its very simple you cant wait to see what happens or its too late. Also no test can predict your male pattern baldness future. Not family not miniturization tests, and not genetic testing. You have to prevent before it gets obvious.
Try at least since we all know nothing works perfect.

Honestly, why are you even here? You obviously do not have a hairloss issue

Except for those many people who have regrown hair.

Man you wasn't even balding ! You have a mature hairline that's why your hair haven't fallen yet. If you have male pattern baldness i don't think Finasteride will make you keep a hair like that in your 40's
