I can completely understand what you're going through Jeffsss. You were probably like me where you had hair so thick from hairline to back that you had to use a women's hair brush to comb it. Now the front is thinning out and the back doesnt have the same "thickeness" to it. You cant wear old hairstyles anymore and in certain light you can now see scalp where you *NEVER* saw scalp before.

Hair is coming out left and right and what do you do? You get on Finasteride and come to a hairloss forum for help & support. Just like *any* other guy here you're dealing with a devastating affliction and it is not only scaring the hell out of you it is threatening your very self-idenity.

What do you get when you finally post pics? Flack from guys who either never had a real thick head of hair or who have been thinning so long they dont remember what the beginning stages of thinning/recession was like... Hell, some guys never even percieve the beginning stages with their *own* hair let alone another man's hair!

Plus, understandable, guys who have lost serious hair will always look at a guy who still has a lot of hair with a little contempt and hostility. I get it all the time.

Look Jeffsss, I understand what is going on but I wouldnt expect too many other posters here to sympathize too much when you post the pics you have. Bottom line, dont waste your time trying to convince others. Some guys just wont *EVER* get it until they have a huge bald spot on their head.

I understanding that you're freaking out man. It is freaking hard to go from super thick hair you can style *any* way you want to having to put effort into making your hair look acceptable. However, you made the best decision you could by starting on Finasteride; Early!

I'm not going to bull-$#iT with ya man. My experience has been Finasteride does *not* stop thinning 100%. I honestly dont know if anything can. I would give up the hope of getting your old hair back and save yourself the heartache I went through.

Be happy for what you have today as *today* is the best your hair is going to look. That might sound pessimistic but it isnt. With treatments you can drastically slow down the hair you do lose and you might even be able to prevent yourself from losing all the hair you otherwise would have... You may not keep everything you still have today but you might not end up at the far end of the Norwood scale.

Give it a full year bud and, if at that time you're still losing too fast, consider either accepting it or decide on how you want to super-size your routine. There are more options at your disposal but they increase cost and/or risk.

Anyhow, best advice I can give you now (aside from hairloss treatments) is to take *real* good care of your skin (always wear sunscreen when in the sun), your teeth, and get into decent shape (not a muscle head just get yourself in reasonable shape). Ignore my advice at your own peril

Socks' post has nailed it. I am the exact same situation. To anyone else it looks like I have a full head of hair, which I do, but to me, I can feel how my hair is thicker in the back.

I try not to bring it up anymore because people around who are worse off just get really annoyed.

I've found a shampoo that has completely gotten rid of the itch and apply spironolactone once a day for now. I'm hoping that having a very thick of head of hair to begin with, along with these small maintenance moves will suffice.

Good luck all.

so does yours. I hope I've made my point about how you perceive yourself? We're always much more critical of ourselves.

your hair looks a-m-a-z-i-n-g

I think some people here are just worried about nothing, also, after the mid 20s there is something called "mature hairline", a lot of man have a little recession/thinning during that period of age... but that dont mean male pattern baldness

i'm hoping that my mature hair line will stop soon. are you thinking that some people lose their hair in their 20's and hold it for the rest of their lives?

This the new born of an illness. It could be named "the oral spironolactone sindrome" or "baldorexia".

The majority of the named sexiest men in the world don´t have hair as luxurious as Jefss or Socks. Still, they perceive their hair as a trauma.

I can´t figure reasons here. Maybe they engage in hair-count battles with gorillas like shown above as a hobby. Or something.

I don´t want to continue as I don´t wanna be harsh, specially with Socks, who ever has been a reference for good advice and info in hair loss forums. But it seems he kept the worst advice for himslef.

I don't know why you are bashing socks' viewpoint.

The situation is simple.

Some people have 0 hair and don't care, yet all of you have a lot more than nothing and you do care. In fact you obsess about it.

Just different degrees of the same sickness/obsession, with jeffs being at one extreme. I'm not saying it's a good thing. It took me almost a year to get to the point of acceptance. i.e. yes I am thinning but so does everyone and my situation is not so bad.

Telling people who are going through this "dude, your hair looks fine" is a better way to help then than to tell them "you're an idiot, you have too much hair to complain".

Just my 2 cents.

Note for those that shed a lot.

The first 15 times I run my hand through my hair in the shower I get 2-3 hairs coming out. So we're talking 50 hairs just in that instance, and my hair still looks OK.

Just to show you that you shouldn't pay too much attention to shedding.

what if this "shedding" has been going on since the end of august?

It seems like i lose hair, but it doesnt come back.. I look very closely at my scalp for small hairs that are potentailly replacing the hairs that fall out.. but see nothing

Your hair looks ok because you have so much of it! That should be obvious!

Yeah. My point was that even though I've been shedding a shitload of hair over the last 18 months, my hair is still pretty thick.

Jeff, it will come back. You're still in treatment's infancy. I'm guessing you never noticed how many hairs came out when you weren't concerned about hairloss. Who would? Just calm down and stay the course.
