hi everyone, ive been on propecia and a medicated dandruff shampoo similar to nizoral (thinking of switching to nizoral - will this cause a shed?) now for 1 month and 3 weeks and am pleased to say im fairly confident ive seen some results.
this has surprised me quite a bit because im only just turned 18 and my thinning was quite aggressive - most of it happened in about 3-4 months (seemed crazy to me), and my thinning was, and i guess still is, quite bad. also, i thought itd take at least 3 months to see any positive changes. this leads me to question whether my improvement is temporary? or a sign of better things to come? who knows.
all i know is i am more happy with my hair situation than when i started. im not sure if its regrowth, or general thickening, but i can now pretty much cover the bits i used to have where you could see through to the scalp with the help of the styling and some highlights that i had before starting treatment. i have noticed some very short, fine hair growing in the temple area (i am a diffuse thinner with only a very very tiny bit of recession) and although my temples r not much of a concern it gives me hope for the rest of my head.
present situation is ive gone about a month and a half without a haircut and my hair still looks good. before this i had to have it cut every 3 weeks or so because when it was longer it looked too straggly.
i have a baseline photograph but its in the possession of my derm, and when i go back at the 4 month mark she will take a comparison pic. il try and get the baseline one off her and take my own 2 month comparison, but i dont want to get false hopes as im sure its too early to see any sort of big picture.
still, i hope this is a sign of good things to come and wish you all success in your regimens. i think a lot less about my hair now than i used to which is comforting as i thought id be very visibly thinning by now. but i really want to contribute to this site even if im happier - who knows what my situation will be a few months down the line and i owe the contributor to this site a lot anyway. my advice to you is dont look at the top of your head every day in extremely bright light - use a normal light. this will help you keep faith in your regimen at least for a few month when you can properly assess the situation.
