After much deliberation and uncertainty (still am), I've just taken my first propecia pill. I'm balding badly especially in my crown which looks pretty bald although when i run my hands on it, there is hair there but very fine. The front of my hair although thinning can look ok. I've been using dermatch and toppik for a couple of years which worked really well but are starting to become difficult on the crown.

Not sure what to expect at this point, but would be really happy to maintain thicken up slightly what I've got now. Been using rogaine and nizoral for about 2 years without finasteride. Rogaine seemed to help for the first 6 months but have gradullay lost more hairs. Scalp itches as my hair gets longer, not too bad at all when freshly cut. I tend to let my hair grow for two months then get it cut really short. If I lose too much more hair I will shave it off.

Ok, I was kind of expecting to get no sides (and tbh little success, but I'm gonna try it for a year). Its' only my 4th day and I;m getting some very mild ball ache which I've read about. First 3 days were fine. It feels as if its been flicked really hard and is bruising. Does this usually subside or do you guys put up with it?

I've stopped taking the finasteride to see if the ball ache disappears. I have read it normally goes within about a week. Mine hasn't dissappeared after four days of taking the pills (only took four) It's freaked me out a bit as I never get ball ache. I seem to have a mild abdominal cramp as well, no problems with erections.

Keep us informed mate. I'll do likewise.

I don,t know why I don,t get freaked from the sexual sides at all including the ball aches>>maybe it is not a good thing, but i wasn,t worried by it, I was expecting the sides

SIlverfox1, get back on it and ignore the ball ache. It's pretty commonplace to experience it, and I'm fairly confident that it goes away for everyone that gets it. I started finasteride 4 years ago at .5mg, and I got ball ache....and it freaked me the eff out, but I stuck with it. Had it for about a week, then one day I realized that I hadn't had it in a long time. A bit over a year ago I upped my dose to 1.25 mg....ball ache came back. I rode it out. Had it constantly for a week, then it tapered off....and all of a sudden I realized "I can't remember the last time I had any ball ache".

Don't worry, just ignore it and it'll go away

Thanks, that is reassuring. I've read a lot of your posts and you have great hair btw. Better than mine when I had a full head of hair. I'm sure a lot of people would think a bit of ball ache, big deal. I think i was so surprised how quick it came on and also the realisation that this drug can affect the one area a man don't like being messed with. i started straight on 1mg.

Gonna take it slow.

Ball ache for me came on the same day I took it. You might drop down to .5, just to help ease your mind

3 week update.

Stopped the finasteride for a week and after a week the ball ache went. Started again on 1mg eod. Had mild abdominal pain on the first day, since then nothing really. early days.

I had mild testicular dullness, in my left nut, for about 1 week and a half, nothing since then. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

since going on 1mg every day the ball ache and mild abdomonial pain has returned and is constant. It is nowhere near as bad as the first week but is annoying and you can't forget about it when sitting around. Playing sport, and you forget about it. Every now and then I get a sharper pain in my right testicle like a pulse but only lasts a couple of seconds.

Anyone else have the ball ached to come and go every so often?

yep! Im 18months on it now and every now and again get that shooting pain in one nut- always the one on right! never lasts more than a day.
