I do think going vegetarian is like taking propecia...you are lowering DHT in your system...Well, even if you reduce your meat intake, I think it will can slow down hair loss...

Here is my reasoning: When you eat meat, your cholesterol level increase. Cholesterol is a precursor to testosterone which then can be convert to DHT. So if you lower your cholesterol level, you might reduce DHT. I have been a vegetarian for about 6 months now and I can see the different in the the volume and strength of my hair...Additionally, I can see tht my body hair is also limper...

Well, not to debunk your theory, and the world surely could use more non meat eaters, but I have been a vegetarian for over 15 years, a vegan for nearly that long. My hair is mainly problematic in the temporal regions, and a smigdeon in the crown area, or rather, where my cowlick is. The quality of my hair has always been poor, no matter what I used on it. So, while I would love to say that cutting out meat improves ones hair situation, I just don't see it as guaranteed, or even close to correlative. No offense, as if it works for you, that's great! Just be sure you're getting all of the right supplemental foods to compenate for what you're now not getting, as this could negate what positive results your currently experiencing on the hair front. Which I think is a factor, but not the reason, for my current hair condition. Well, I hope your new found way of living/eating continues to bring you positve results.

It doesn't matter if you reduce your cholesterol intake if you're already eating relatively healthy. Your body makes cholesterol out of acetyl-CoA on a regular basis, so in reality you have dietary cholesterol and cholesterol that your body makes in the liver. That's why controlling hormones that have no feedback mechanism is so difficult as their is always a constant source of cholesterol to make them with.

The only way that you could truly lower your cholesterol is to take a drug like Vytorin, which is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor and prevents the formation of cholesterol while also inhibiting dietary intake.

If this were true, I'd just have to accept my hair loss, but I'm a total meat lover and can't help but wanna eat meat with every meal.

My take on this has always been that it is the isoflavones / phytoestrogens in the beans / soy / etc in a vegetarian diet that are what is really helping balance out hormones. That said I think most Americans get the whole vegetarian thing wrong when they try to do it because they are not in a culture that has well established vegetarian dietary guidelines. I think it is pretty easy to go wrong with vegetarianism and end up getting decificient in B12 or some particular amino acid or mineral (namely iron), etc, especially if your a vegan.
