So, my hair loss is progressing relatively quickly, I would say I notice a recession every few months time and after 2 years and about 7 months on Rogaine with no progress, this was the next step i'd like to attempt. Unfortunately, the dermatologist I went to didn't want to prescribe it and my primary doctor didn't either, so I'm wondering if there is a specific type of doctor I should be trying to find? The only 'hair specialist' I see are for things like transplants and such.

I live in Franklin 53132 if anyone would have any advice on the types of doctors or tips I should know before, while i'm worried about the effects of finasteride, I feel I should try it for awhile to see if it helps :(

How bad is your hairloss?

I had that issue in the past but more recently as my hair has thinned out more it wasn't hard to get prescribed

I got prescribed finasteride by a normal dermatologist who dealt with skin and hair...but was in the UK quite a few years back. Might be a different system in the states. Possibly try a trichologist?

You can get it in the states. It's actually not hard.

There's lots of online pharmacies that give prescriptions online.

As long as you have a Doctor's script, you can get an online Finasteride prescription.

Do you make an appointment with your doctor and just tell them hair loss as the reason? Then just go in there and basically ask for it? It feels kind of petty to see a Doctor about that knowing he came from a room next to you with a guy that has cancer or something more major.
I think docs look at male pattern baldness like that too which is why its so tough to get propecia. Some of them dont think its worth taking a drug for cosmetic thing

My hair loss is fairly significant now, the entirety of the top of my head as well as the upper/side are becoming 'diffuse', so I sun burn on the top of my head easily now, as well, my hairline is receding and beginning to become more of a triangle rather than the flat line it was. It's definitely noticeable even if you didn't know me prior, but especially so if you did.

The doctors notice the hair loss, they just don't want to prescribe this :(

And no, I have been having an on going issue with GERD (around the same time my hair loss began oddly) and I mentioned them asking if there could be any relation and they always say no, so I ask if I can try this medication to see if it would help with that issue and it's always no.

Sounds like a much more straightforward system then what we have in the UK!

Sorry to hear that. You have some center, the "Belvre center" ?? or something like that.

Heard that you are contraced with them and have to pay future medication plans up front?

Is that true?

For me, I just get it from my "family doctor". This is a doctor who deals with the same patient for many
different things, and is not specialized in one area. I just ask him, he usually gives me a script of 90 pills.

You don't need finasteride to control your DHT. There are other substances to do that too. I heard saw palmetto is quite effective at doing that. Although I have yet to find solid evidence backing that up. I'd also heard that drinking 4 cups of green tea a day helps. Not green tea extract, the tea itself. I'd recommend doing it anyway because it's extremely healthy and beneficial. Just look into it. Finasteride isn't the only option.

Ah yes the Belgravia centre in London. I almost made an appointment with them once but I read some scary stuff (cost aspect of their meds) and decided to go elsewhere. They're not the only option, you can see a derm or trichologist here but these are privately and can be exp, however not a fraction of what Belgravia centre would cost. G.Ps not ever been able to prescribe finasteride for me...only a referral to derm.

Yes sadly you really do need finasteride. SP if it does anything (big if) is probably much too weak to work for male pattern baldness. I heard the revivogen creator mention SP is 10 times weaker then finasteride. Green tea I have no idea maybe it does something if you drink gallons a day, but that just makes other issues.
Propecia is still far and away the best choice even with the risks

GERD could be from eating the wrong foods, which could also affect hair loss. I would try to figure out what is causing your GERD, as well.

Yeah one of my issues with seeing a derm about getting propecia is the fact they want me to come back every 6 months for no real reason other then to get money from me. So every 6 months for the rest of my life I have to pay to see a derm to get the prescription for a drug that is life long?
