Genuinely worried for the first time, after using nizoral...

When I say worried for the first time, of course that's not entirely true, but for the first time ever the other day whilst washing my hair, I thought to myself, f**king hell, this is it.

I've still got an okayish head of hair, but the last few times I've washed my hair I've lost at least thirty hairs, which frankly is pretty worrying.

The only thing I've changed in my lifestyle is that around a week ago I started using nizoral (regular nizoral for now, just ordered some 2% stuff) and also started doing a lot of exercise.

Am I right in thinking that these two things are generally pretty harmless, and if anything should help to retain hair? Don't think I've read a single story of someone losing more hair when using nizoral.

So, my question is; should I carry on using the nizoral or not? Is it always like this at the start, or what?

Thanks

Hmm, kind of the same story here.

I've only used Nizoral like 3 times now and I have the feeling it's really eating my frontal hairs. I wouldn't bother really if I knew it was only shedding and better hairs will appear, but can someone tell me something about it?
My skin doesnt feel dry or itchy at all I must say btw.

Same story with me as well... i feel its made my crown/vertex thin excessively with alot more shedding from someone who only sees 1 or 2 hairs in the sink.. and since i'm using only nizoral, it seems like the only culprit.. on top of that.. it made my scalp extremely itchy which probably added to the shed.

I shed the first few weeks on nizoral actually. I really didn't think I would b/c I hadn't heard of shedding being that common with nizoral. But all the hair that I shed as a result of starting has come back with no problem. Doesn't mean my hair is good, but at least it wasn't a permanent losing of hairs. I'd say ride it out.

Thanks; I'll stick it out for another few weeks then and see how I get on.

Right now I'm pretty worried about it still though really, just washed my hair again, and again lots of hairs... sigh :(

I've used Nizoral earlier before because of the inflammation I had. I had quit using it because the inflammation was gone and it was destroying my frontal hairline like it is now.
After I quit it took a while for the hairs to regrow, but at least they did. I've started using it again because I feel some inflammation again, but again my frontal hairline is suffering. I'll just keep using it this time though. I'll give it 3 months or so and see what happens. If it hasnt got any better by that time, i'll quit it. I really hope this is just a periodic shed  .

I also recently stepped on Minoxidil 5% though, so I can't blame all the sheds on Nizoral. I must say though it looks exactly the same as the last time I was using nizoral.

When I started using it I shed a bit too but i don't know if it was the nizoral or not. I can't say I still shed as much but this question still worries me. I think i asked this before with no result

Cheers again for the replies and advice guys; I'm definitely worried, my hair has been fairly consistent for a while, but it looks thin as hell now on the sides at the front... going to have it cut tomorrow which will be the real test, hmmph.

Yea. I don't know about nizoral. It just seems like it sheds my hair and does nothing else. Should I go down to 1x a week?

Seriously, this question is really bothering me....

Honestly everyone here who uses Nizoral, do you really think it works? are you actually seeing results from it?

Has anyone ever thought that nizoral actually does not do jackshit at all??? and we are all just buying a dandruff shampoo because on the internet there are a few 'studies' that say it helps?

Like, personally I feel that because hair loss sufferers are using so many different things at once it's really hard to pinpoint which one of the treatments is actually working...hell if some 'studies' start showing that pert plus shampoo helps with hairloss it might get lucky if word spreads around and eventually be thrown into the mix even though it doesn't actually help at all.

Alot of things imo have this sort of reputation such as MSM or biotin supplements, people can't stop taking them because they don't know if it is actually working or not, they just read somewhere that it does...

From what I understand, nizoral is supposed to reduce inflammation, but all it did for me was make my scalp irritated and itch like crazy. So I definitely stopped. I went to my doctor to talk about hairloss and he said it would be a good idea to have a healthy scalp, so he prescribed me some scalp lotion. Also he told me to use a shampoo called Sulsom Blue, which I have been on a daily basis. My scalp now feels better, no itching or irritation, so if nizoral is supposed to reduce that, and it didn't, then maybe its doing more damage than good.

Nizoral didn't help with my scalp irritation at all , and I had increased shedding while using it (but I suspect a different cause to this).
(I think my scalp became irritated from muscle contraction / tension headaches due to my hairloss anxiety.)
Though I think it helped with my dandruff quickly when I first used it.

Nizoral is NOT making any of you lose any hair.

Stop being paranoid.

There are studies that prove ketoconazole improves hair counts in men who use it. So why would you NOT use it??? Because you THINK its making you lose hair?

If I stopped taking every hairloss product that made me shed to begin with I'd be bald. Propecia didn't properly start working for me in till I started using nizoral as it helped clear up my scalp inflammation. Some people will find nizoral a bit harsh, that's why a conditioner afterwards is useful.

Just to add, as i've re-read this thread and it's full of newbie paranoia... If you're losing your hair you will shed, and when you wash your hair you will notice the hair in your hand, no matter what shampoo you use...

If I eat an apple then notice two hairs fall out of my head, does that mean the apple made the two hairs fall out? No of course not, but that is the logic being applied in this thread.

Yeah I agree that there are alot of stupid hairloss assumptions on here , BUT topical Nizoral is NOT proven to help with male pattern baldness inflammation nor is it proven to inhibit DHT.
It is however proven to help with dandruff inflammation by killing the fungus responsible for dandruff and promote hair grow by that mechanism in some people . IMO it should not recommend as a general hairloss treatment.
Oh and the leaflet from my ketoconazol bottle states that hairloss is a possible side effect
