What is the outlook for someone:

- mild thinning started at 24/25
- probably higher than usual DHT levels (acne prone/body hair/athletic body type/temper)
- still don't appear to have lose to others

With family:
- dad, dad's bro both NW7, each started balding significantly at 19, nearly totally bald by mid 20s
- mom's brothers (2) both NW1's and over 50
- mom's dad was NW1 all his life

?

***EDIT: actually, one of my uncles on mom's side has a patch of baldness on the top/back part of his head - my cousin just told me on msn. But he he 63 years old, and pretty much looks fine. No one would say he's 'bald' that's for sure.

No one knows, it is all really a guess. Yet you said NW7's are common in your family, then more than likely that is where you are probably going to progress, maybe not as fast but still it is a very real possibility.

Yeah, i guess it basically comes down whether i get the mom's or dad's genes (or a mix).

I don't really care if i lose me hair eventually, but right now i need to keep it while i still am not married and young. My hair is long and it's just very comfortable - both in the way it feels against my face/neck and in the image it projects - which I believe is congruent with how I feel inside.

If I go bald right now, I feel I'll be projecting an image that is incongruent with the 'real' me. So I'd either have to change who I am, or accept people attracted to an image not representative of the real me. And I don't want to do either at the moment. :(

I really hope this proscer stuff works.

I know it's easier said than done but "looks fade, don't get attached".

Yeah, but I have turmoil in other areas of my life that I am currently combating. So while becoming at peace with my appearance unconditionally would be great, I think that trying to do this right now would overwhelm me. Once I overcome some other challenges though, I plan to transition into a shaved bald state. But ideally not now.

imo, by the sounds of things it looks like you don't have too much to worry about. People who end up being nw7s usually show signs before they hit 20. You just have slight thinning at 24/25. But it really depends on how you look now and whether the thinning is progressing.

And the bald gene usually comes from the mother's side. They say that you will most likely have the gene past down from your maternal grandfather. In your case your grandfather was nw1 his whole life... that's a very good sign for you.

In my case, my maternal grandfather was a nw7 ever since he was about 40. My dad is in his 60's and is only now showing signs of thinning. Lucky for me I inherited my grandfather's genes instead :thumbdown2:

The only way you can tell is to take pictures and see how far your thinning progresses. But again, by the sound of things, you don't have too much to worry about.

Thanks for the info. I've heard that thing about your mother's side before, but have read conflcting things about its trueness.

I have my dad and uncle who I can candidly ask about their balding experiences. But, as I appear completely unbald right now, I'm afraid to ask others as it's probably annoying.

All in all though, I guess I'm thankful. The baldness phenomenon is beginning to strike people within my friends group - 2 particularly bad. When I was 18 if you told me that a few of us were going to be noticebly losing hair in the next few years, I'd definitely have thought I'd be among them. Who knows where things will go, but I geuss all I can do is be grateful and enjoy my hair now as I realize it may not be with me forever.
