I applied foam to long hair for a LONG time. Obviously if you apply it to your hairline its easy, you just hold back your hair and apply straight from the nozzle. Dont worry about measuring anything. The crown is the harder part, ALOT of foam gets caught up in the long hair around the crown. I usually stick the Rogaine Foam nozzle right down deep in my hair at root level just above my scalp then squirt a little on at various places im thinner. Then I use my finger tips to massage it in to the scalp the best i can. Its tricky but can be done. Foam doesnt hurt hair at all. Sometimes I didnt wash my hair for 3-4 days with foam still on the shaft of some hairs. It doesnt do damage. I did that for around 6 months and got some good crown improvement. However now, ive gone shorter. Applying meds is so much better!

Good luck.

Thanks for your tips ;) i have thinner litte spot on my crow and noticable thinning at the front, planing finally after 6 years of hairloss to start regime, BTW i hear bad comments about the shed from rogaine foam. I also planing to wet my hair at places where i plan to apply but still i'm afraid to use it on entire scalp

I never shed initially. Took a good 6 months before I got a good shed. Im also going through another one right now. i wont lie to you, they can be quite devastating. But dont be discouraged keep your regime up and never miss applications and it will come back again stronger. Just know that your jumping on a roller coaster. Expect 4-5 months of GOOD hair, then generally you will shed again and your hair will look AWFUL and terribly thin, but it always seems to come back better its WEIRD. But thats the hardest part. Riding out these thin, shedding periods, its very easy to be discouraged, but its critical in this period you keep you regime up without missing applications and ride it out. Im currently in a low period. Ive discussed this with a few other guys on the board about this roller coaster effect and most are in agreement. I wouldnt go crazy with the foam at first, just apply it to the worse areas initially, then perhaps work into other areas later.

Good luck :)

Shedding is real pain but i hear that there are 'bad' and 'good' shedds, i'm not sure about the bad shedds but don't like any topical simply at end to 'eat' my hair without any progress. I know sounds funny from my side but i'm quite newbie. Btw we have little luck that there are things like Toppik/Dermatch that can help in that kind of periods.

I started to apply the foam directly to the scalp in the way you have, but you have to be careful otherwise you can overload it. That's not damaging, just wasteful !

Oh yeah occasionaly I squirt way to much on and end up being dizzy. It really is a slip of the finger, controlling the amount that comes out can be difficult sometimes. I admit i dont apply consistant dosages whoch probably isnt a real good thing, I just approximate the best i can. I dont spend my whole life worrying about whether i get correct dosages of foam on my head or not, I just squirt it on to my thinner areas and hope for the best...

Good and bad sheds?

So how do you know the difference between "good" or "bad" sheds? White bulb at the end of the shaft? What would cause a "bad" shed?

I seem to have hairs with bulbs at the ends. Very thick hair as well as fine hairs. Is this usually considered ok?
