First day on Fincar - Basline pics - Any advice would be great

Hi guys

Starting finasteride for the first time today, a bit apprehensive and nervous to any sides but im willing to give it a go to try and maintain and hopefully regrow a bit, im not going to add minoxidil yet , im going to give finasteride a chance alone first and then add the minoxidil in later

Iv attached some basline pics that were recently taken, Id say im probably NW2 going to NW3, depending on what I see and hear it seems to differ according to individual opinion, hopefully I can get to a solid NW2 with meds, hopefully the temples will fill in as much as possible.

If anyone has any solid advice to give that would be great

Thanks a lot!

Im currently using 5mg Fincar cut into 4 pieces, a 1/4 a day, Heard a lot of horror stories on this site about generic finasteride but then Iv heard a lot of good things also, so I suppose time will tell and my results will speak for themselves

hopefully gonna try and put some pics up in a few months time and share any sides/experiences I may have in the meantime with you all

One week update

Obviously I dont expect to see results yet, the only real 'side' I feel I have is a dull ache in the testicles - that comes and goes and isnt really a huge concern to me but it will hopefully fade as its pretty annoying.

No sexual issues to note as of yet, still remains the same as before.

Happy enough so far

The ball ache is a classic and likely to pass fast. I had it for like 2-3 weeks and then it went off. It wasn't severe enough that I would even consider it a side, as you also said. Keep at it mate.

Ball ache has gone! no other sides noted

Have recently read that cutting 5mg finasteride up is a bad idea and that you do not get the correct dosage daily, can anyone verify that? Im thnking about shaving my hair and going really short on the back and sides, with it slightly longer on top - to try and hide the receding temples as well as I can

attached new wet pictures to show you the extent of the temple loss

I think the short on the sides and longer on the top is a good shout. Makes it look like you have more on top. Maybe even throw in a bit of concealer if you liked? I think you'd be in pretty good shape.

I heard from my own Doctor that the fluctuation is like 80% to 120% of the intended dose as the drug might not be distributed evenly across the pill. What that means is that the dosage would be between 1mg and 1.5mg a day. Seems fine to me. At any rate, you'd still end up getting 5mg of finasteride in 4 days, as intended.

I think you're in good shape mate. Just keep going at it. :)

so its been nearly 3 weeks I believe since I started taking Finasteride, nothing to note yet as expected and no sides felt.

in all honesty im getting down about the whole hair loss thing , and im spending way to much time researching it and spending way too much time browsing on this site, also (images attached) after looking and taking photos under a bright light, it seems like the front of my hair is thinning now aswell and dramatically at the temples - im really thinking about buzzing it now as its getting harder to style all the time

Its really made me realise how bad it actually is, NW3 already at 23... I just hope I can improve in the future

My arse that's an NW3. You have hairloss, but don't be a drama queen. It'll get better after a few months on finasteride.

If you're getting down about hair loss like I am(I'm turning 23 next month) then you should get on the big 3, especially if you want regrowth. And trust me buddy, mine is way worse than yours!

Good job dude. You may just make it. Nw0bitch
Hope so.. maybe too early for a victory but I've been struggling with hairloss for 4 years and a few things did work like massaging the scalp and some random japanese herbal product. But those hair fell out eventually anyway. So now without being a little b**ch getting on the big 3 was a great decision. Also 0.5 mg should work good enough that is what I've read from other people so I'll stick with that.

For anyone that buzzed their hair down, at what point did you do it? Really thinking about using clippers all over for the next cut

I recently buzzed my head, and i'm relatively around the same point. For me it was pretty liberating. I still worry about hair loss obviously, but I feel a lot more comfortable. I no longer have the anxiety of hiding something.
You still have a lot of hair and hopefully it will stay that way. No harm in testing it out (buzzcut) if its bothering you like it was me.

Can anyone recommend a good minoxidil to buy and where as I'm going to start that and try and thicken up what I have
