Finpecia / Shampoo

Hi guys,

I'm 29 years of age and have noticed a thinning of my hair over the last two years (mostly at the front). I would like to start treating this before it gets too bad and hopefully this site is the best place for good advice. I was thinking of ordering some Finpecia from united pharmacies and maybe using some specialised shampoo?? Is this the best option open to me or are there other treatments that I should be looking at???

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Skipper

Yeah Finpecia should be your first choice. You may want to look at Rogaine as well if you could be bothered applying it to your scalp two times a day for the rest of your life.

Also look at Nizoral or the new Revita shampoo.

i agree that you should look at revita and nano shampoo but talk to a Doctor before getting on finpecia. that's what i'd do.

by the way, i deleted your duplicate post in the other forum on here. didn't see a reason for it. if you'd like me to move this thread to the general treatments forum where your duplicate was, let me know and i can do that for you.

thanks,
jayman

Skipper,

You can certainly order some finpecia (or finax) from united pharmacies or inhousepharmacy.

I bought some finax a month ago from UP and have been taking 0.25mg EOD. I'm on the Big 3 now officially. You should as well. Get the Revita shampoo, and you can apply some Rogaine Foam on your hairline as well.

Good luck.

Information

Hi again,

I have received the Finasteride from United pharmacies as 1mg tablets but when searching for information on the drug there is a lot of confusion. People are talking about cutting tablets up/ taking them in morning as opposed to night/ drinking specific fluids with them/ Shedding / Not Shedding / Different lengths of time before drug shoud start working. Also the costs seem to vary dramatically from user to user. I got 9 strips of ten tablets for $57

Is there any chance that someone could clear up any of these with the basic facts about finasteride.

Any help appreciated.

1 mg is the prescribed daily dose. So unless you want to take less, you don't have to bother cutting those. Just take 1 per day.

Some of us get the 5mg tabs because it's cheaper that way - and that's when the cutting comes in.

They say you can take it at anytime - but some people prefer evenings.

Shedding? don't get me started :) Read up.

Skipper,

If you search this thread you will find the answers you're looking for but to be short and blunt, it's all about what you want and what your priority is. If money is of no concern to you and all you care about hair growth just take 1 pill a day.

Go to the home page, click on product reviews, and read the PDF files for finasteride. During trials the results were that 0.2mg of finasteride is about 90% as effective as 1mg. This means you cut it up into 4ths. There were even results with the medication as low as 0.05mg, and very good results compared to placebo. The half life of the 5AR enzymes is 14 days for one and 30 for another as well so a lot of derms will prescribe this at an every other day (EOD) dosage. Therefore I use 0.25mg EOD as finances are important to me while still being able to maximize results.

Some people drink grapefruit juice with it as they believe it increases absorption. I did a little bit of research into this when I first started taking finasteride and the conclusion I came to from the posts I read was that this is pretty much hogwash. finasteride reduces DHT so I don't even know HOW this stuff can cause a shed, I've asked this in prior threads without getting a response. Minoxidil causes a shed by the nature of how this stuff works so if finasteride causes a shed it's nothing to be alarmed about. Hair normally sheds, that's not what causes baldness, it's the fact that the shedded hairs regrow back miniaturized until the follicles finally die. So minoxidil shortens the telogen phase and causes all the hairs to shed at this point. I don't believe finasteride works this way and it could just be in peoples' heads about the shedding.

Just take the stuff, dose it depending on what you can afford, and wait a year and see how your hair looks. If you want to worry about all that other stuff like me than research it but if not, than don't worry about it and just take it. Are you on the Big 3 or just finasteride?

Just gonna give the finasteride a try out.. Thinning at the front of my head and from what i've read finasteride seems to be the way to go about stopping this. It is not severe hair loss and thinning has been gradual over last two years but I dont want to get to point of no return. I have been using standard strenghtening/multi vitamin shampoo from Elvive but will probably move on to Nizoral or something similar soon.

Thanks,

Skipper

You also might want to look into taking .25 mg instead of 1 mg a day. There is evidence that you will basically get the same effect from the lower dosage, but with lower possible sides. PLEASE do your own research though...

I take .25 every morning, with fluids and shedding is a pandora's box at this forum.

Man, I just got my Finpecia order and damn they are tiny pills. I originally planned on 1/4ing them and taking .25 every day, but I had a hard enough time cutting it in half....anyone else try this with Finpecia?

You may get less side effects, but you'll also get less desired effect.

I use a cheapo pill splitter and get them into good 0.25mg pieces with ease.
