any difference to these two besides the 1mg and 5mg. Also would cutting fincar into 4ths or 5ths be hard/worth it? I'm trying to be as cheap as possible about this, i'm starting school in a few weeks and have no spare cash but i wanna stop losing my hair while i can!

I am not experienced poster and also don't have much knowledge about hairloss treatments (not as much as some other members here have), but here is my opinion:

Theoretically, fincar and finpecia should consist of the same active ingredient (namely - finasteride). So, in paper, if you take five times less fincar than finpecia daily, you should achieve roughly the same results. However, in the world of medicine, experience works much better than theory, so I, as well as you, will really appreciate if someone more experienced member gives his opinion here.

Yes Fincar and Finpecia are the same thing in terms of active ingredient.
Fincar has a 5mg dosage of Finasteride
Finpecia has a 1mg dosage of Finsasteride

They are generic drugs manufactured by Cipla in India.
The equivalent Merck brand names would be Proscar and Propecia

If you use a pillcutter to cut your fincar into 5 pieces you would have the same dosage as 1 finpecia pill.
A lot of people don't cut into fiths though because it is easier to cut into 4 pieces - leaving you with a dosage of 1.25g per quarter

Or you can use the alcohol method - dissolve a 5mg pill in alcohol and then take 1/5 of the total substance - this yields the same results and actually allows for better dose accuracy, since you don't have to bother cutting the pill in even pieces ;) ...

I think using fincar is the cheapest way to go. A years supply is $78 bucks at Inhouse... anyone can
afford that. Even if you go with Finpecia it's still only $198 bucks a year. If that had been the case
ten years ago when Propecia was $100 a month... I might still have a hairline.
