Hi All..

So I,d been takin finasteride 1mg for about 5months and my initial results were ok ish after being balding since 25 I'm now 48 I'd experienced the first new growth on my crown in all that time after trying minoxidil and the whole kitchen sink shite etc... so after looking into it I decided to try 1mg twice a day as it sempt a good idea at the time, hmm so a month n a half in I started getting less growth and a little shedding so decided to go back to 1mg a day (I should of been content with what WAS happening with 1mg n leave it at that) but I didn't... so I'm now wondering if theres a dht backlash? Meaning if my body had become used to the extra dht blocker at 2mg per day so when I went back to 1mg dailey there was some sort of backlash? I know that, well I assume my hair/I'm really sensitive to dht on the scalp area so this is all I can think of???

Any advice would be really appreciated indeed as hair growth I much less dense overall and now I really wish I'd kept things as is on 1mg dailey instead of the increase..

If someone else has experienced this same problem I'd be very interested as to what their views are

Many kind thanks

From a study. The androgen receptors in the prostate got upregulated when the subjects got off finasteride. Same could be with the hair. Maybe your body needs time to adjust to the 1mg again.

Kind thanks for your reply mate, and that would make sense I suppose.. I upped to 1mg twice daily for a month then dropped back to 1mg dailey so I'm hoping that it's not gonna have done permanently damage? Been back on 1mg around 2 , 3 month now..

You have any idea how long it might take to re adjust back to before? I understand it's a "how long is a piece of string" question.. but maybe your best guess?

Thanks again mate

Unfortunatly in the study the subjects androgen receptors never got back to normal after quiting finasteride.

Yeah I've not quit totally tho, just reduced back down to 1mg dailey from 2mg daily..

Suppose it's a waiting game isnt it?

Thanks

The efficacy increase from 0.50 to 1 to 2 mg is not that big (only 9%). The prescribed dose in south Korea for finasteride is 0.25

Hi mate,

So where does this leave my situation then?

Has my body become used to the 1mg or 2mg even when I stepped it up?

I dont get it at all now and these posts have got me thinking "well I'm screwed".. lol

Dont worry just yet. A body tends to take a while for it to get rid of all the effects of drugs. Just keep with the 1mg. Goodluck.

Have you changed from brand to generic by chance ?

I don't have an answer for you but I strongly suggest shooting an e-mail to Joe Tillman - he deals with patients with cases like this all the time.

Hi again mate.. so I was on "accord" generic finasteride but when I ordered 3 months because it was cheaper they sent me "milpharm" generic finasteride..
When this happened I contacted assured pharmacy and a female doctor (who I'd already checked out) replied that yes it's a different company but the active ingredient finasteride is the same?

I checked out accord and milpharm companies and I couldn't find anything weird going on.. been on milpharm now for, well just started my 2nd month pack out of the 3 this morning actually..and this backlash, rebounding effect happened before now I thi k about it.

Thanks

All you can do is wait. You didn’t even stay on 1mg long enough for you to have a baseline for results. It needs a solid year to get you where it’s taking you. No clue what shifting the doses did, I don’t think anyone can tell you for sure. You may have had this shed regardless of the change in dosage, it’s not uncommon for that to happen in the first year, even if the shedding had stopped prior to the occurrence. Unfortunately, there’s no way to know one way or the other now.

That being said, given finasteride’s inhibition curve, I highly doubt the temporary increase is the cause of the shed. The difference between 1mg and 2mg is negligible and it was probably coming regardless

Stay at 1 mg, give it 12 months, re-evaluate. Buzz your head if you can’t find a way to look past the shedding until then. Good luck.
