Thank you for the feedback and advice, it's really appreciated and offers a lot to think about. These are the 2 styles I wear it in with as little light as possible

It looks fine to people who dont know about and obsess about hair loss...BUT i would just look into it because if you do have genetics working against you the earlier you protect yourself against DHT the better.

Your hair looks fine, if you had diffused thinning you'd be able to some at least some of your scalp easily and I say this as someone who takes pictures of their hair every day. Just keep an eye on things, take a picture maybe once a month and compare after 6 months. Going on meds just because you are paranoid is not a good idea.

why cant he go and get a biopsy to see if he has any miniaturization instead of guessing? he has family history of hair loss.. No one is saying -go get meds--at least i am not...im telling him to go to an experienced alopecia dermatologist and get a dual biopsy to cross compare by a derma pathologist

for YEARS people told me i was nuts when i though I was losing density. Doctors, friends family hair dresser hair colorist--(your nuts your hair is so thick blah blah blah)..And i wish i never listened to any of them and someone had advised me what i just told him. See an expert in alopecia who knows what to look for.

Crown is diffusing. (take my advice)

my recommendations are to get your scalp analysed, and have a miniaturization test done. Start taking finasteride, because you are within the best stages. Early, able to maintain and in some cases completely reversed.

Right now, you are at a point where in certain lightning, conditions, and angles it appears thinning, and sometimes it appears other wise full. (situational thinning)

Early Thinning or (25-50 Fu/cm2):

In general our hair begins to look thin when we drop below ~ 50FU/CM2. This is the point when a person looks in the mirror one day and he wonders if his hair is looking thin and the next day it looks fine. I call this the phase of “situational” hair loss hair loss t because it is the point where the hair begins to look thin under different situations. For example the hair looks full when dry but thin when wet. Or hair looks full in low light but thin under bright light. During this phase people can do things to camouflage the thinning like blow dry their hair. As one moves from 50 FU/CM down to 25 FU/CM the number of situations during which the hair appears thin increase

I gave my opinion, you have yours. They guy is nearly in his mid 30's, he's likely to have some miniaturization as most people are not blessed with thick hair as they mature. I've got diffuse thinning on the crown and this guy is not even in the early stages, that's why I said keep an eye on it for six months. If it's not aggressive then you have a choice, keep an eye on things or take finasteride if your hair is more important to you than your hormones.

No you are giving him an opinion, I am advising him to go get some facts from a professional.

Alright, I took some pics today to compare to @Kayven since we both have naturally fine hair. My hair is currently short with a messy look. I can definitely see through under intense light, under natural light I cannot. Does that mean I'm diffusing, maybe. I'm 39 and my hair has lost some body over the years, but I can't complain after seeing some guys going bald at 19, that sucks.
