Does anyone know if taking 5mg of Fincar can have adverse health consequences? For example, can it lead to a higher likelihood of prostate cancer etc.? Is taking 5mg too much?

the effect in hairloss is the same and the chances of getting side effects are much higher.

Bullshit!

Use some simple logic: both the beneficial effects on hair and the chances of side effects are due to the reduction in DHT. But there's only a slight difference in DHT reduction between 1 mg/day and 5 mg/day doses of finasteride, so both the effects on hairloss and the chances of side effects will be very similar with either dose.

How about the doses like .25 or .50? I've read that the reduction on scalp DHT is simular like 1mg dose but less chances for sides, is there any true in this?

my point is , a higher dose is probably not going to make a huge difference. All drugs have limitations and a higher dose is not going to give you dramatic gains. And DHT maybe not be the only factor causing hairloss..

Interesting , see the difference of people that reported side effects between 1mg and 5mg

I think what I said about larger doses goes for smaller doses, too: the chance of side effects goes hand-in-hand with DHT reduction. So as you gradually reduce the dose, at first there will be only a slight reduction in side effects, but then when you start to get in that "threshhold" area where DHT reduction starts to fall-off more quickly, side effects will start to fall-off more quickly, too. Isn't all that simple and obvious? :)

I agree with everything you said there.

Those differences were caused by the difference in the AGES of the men in those groups, not the difference between 1 mg and 5 mg! :)

In early testing of the drug, volunteers took as much as 80 mg/day (!) of finasteride for several months, with no problems. And you're worried about a lousy 5 mg?? :)
