Finasteride

I recently came across a graph which most of you are probably aware of. It shows finasteride basically starting to lose its effectiveness after about 3 years and by about the person using it probably will have only a bit more than when he begun treatment. This worries me as I'm only 17 so if any results I get will probably wear of after 5-7 years I'll be bald by my mid twenties. Is this study right or does it differ from person to person? Also does anyone know how long you could expect to mantain on RU58841?

In my opinion this is bullshit,it's not proven ! The same thing is that minoxidil efectivness is only 2 years..bullshit !

I was suprised when I came across it but its hard to disagree with when you see the evidence in the graph. I suppose using minoxidil daily will lengthen the process of keeping hair but really I have to say I'm disappointed with this. Losing my hair so young means that by the time treatment starts to lose effect I'll still be in my early to mid twenties. Thats why I wanted some info on RU. I'm not looking to use it anytime soon seeing as finasteride and minoxidil can at least keep me going for the next few years but then I'm going to have to look at maybe adding something such as RU to try and buy me a few more years. Thats the reason I want to know about how long you can expect to keep hair on RU but I guess its still early day as regards that. Not too many people seem to be using it and there definetly doesn't seem to be any 5 year studies recording how effective it is after a period of time such as that. If anyone on the forum has anymore information or studies on RU I would be very grateful if they could share them.

The difference in haircounts between finasteride users and placebo users continues to INCREASE as time goes by; it doesn't DECREASE. See the graph posted above.

Utter BS. I've been on it for nearly 4 years, and I PROMISE you that I have a ton more hair than I would have it I'd never started taking it.

OK maybe I exaggerated a bit but the graph clearly shows that after about year two the hair count goes down and by year five half of the hair you gained on finasteride has gone. I know if you compare it to the placebo group its a major success but I still was suprised that DHT starts to take effect after two years of taking finasteride. Because I'm only 17 I'm trying to find the best solution to mantaining my hair for the next decade hopefully if possible. I have been on minoxidil for around 5 months and have recieved really good results so now I'm trying to look to the future as regards mantaining the hair I have now gained on minoxidil for as long as possible (hopefully until my late twenties).

I've also heard this before but I've only been on finasteride for 6 months. IF I ever notice that finasteride is losing its effectiveness, would it be beneficial to switch to dutasteride?

"...DHT starts to take effect after two years of taking finasteride" is speaking very loosley. It _tremendously_ slows the balding process. True balding may not happen to you until DECADES have gone by, if you're taking finasteride. But if you want to play it double-safe by adding additional products to the finasteride, start using Prox-N, or one of the other things you read about on this site. That can only help! (I probably wouldn't bother with Rogaine, since that doesn't really interfere with the fundamental balding process, and is rather messy to use.)

Thanks for the advice Bryan. I'm pretty confident that if I add a topical or two then maintenance should be very achievable for the next 7+ years of 85% of my hair.

I don't think anyone else has mentioned this but..i don't think you should start taking finasteride at 17 man. You're not even done with puberty yet..you shouldnt start f*****g with your hormones yet.
