Finasteride works, I'm proof!

So here's the quick story: started taking finasteride back in 2001, started as Propecia, then got 5mg finasteride to cut into quarters soon after. Took religiously for 14 years until disaster, new pharmacy switched fron finasteride 5mg to finasteride 1mg without telling me; pill same size! No granted, the color was brown versus blue but I didn't think to look at the dose BECAUSE THEY MESSED UP! For the next 3 months or so, I took one quarter pill, not 1.25mg like before but .25 mg, nightmare! After about a month of the lower dose I noticed more hair in my hands and my hair wasn't nearly as thick as before but I was going through a very, very stressful period in my life so I chalked it up to the stress. Months continued and I start to see more scalp both at temples and crown, I'm thinking it's my new creatine or again, the stress. One morning, looked at the bottle when reached into get new pill to cut and WHAMMO, 1mg staring me in the face! My heart dropped, panic set in, sheer horror knowing that I got screwed and what was happening was not in my mind but reality. I instantly called new pharmacy (we had moved) and got 5mg back, started taking in early February, and I'm here to tell you that in two months, my hair is insanely thicker again! Bald spot in back has largely grown back over and temples have thickened up as well. In my unwanted case study, finasteride absolutely worked and I'd recommend anyone and everyone who has hair issues to start taking it. I must admit that during the time my dose went down, I was hornier but even with the dosage back up, sex life isn't an issue and never was. Hair is pretty damn important to most of us and I'm proof that finasteride can save your follicles or at the minimum thicken things up. Get on it.

Congrats. Can you remember how long it took you to see results back in 2001?

Thats good. There are a whole lot of cases like yours I think that never show up on these forums. If things go well why would you bother coming here? Take it like a vitamin and live your life.

I took it initially to slow down hair-loss process, it did just that but I can't recall if it regrew hair as it wasn't that bad looking at the time – preemptive strike due to the fact that my maternal grandfather had a Jude Law hairline in his early thirties. I attest the regrowth this time around to the fact that I caught it reasonably quickly, before the follicles wasted away. It's a major difference between today and late January.

0.25 mg finasteride and 1.25 mg finasteride have essentially the same reduction in serum DHT and hair density. Very strange that you would notice a "nightmare!" with your hair in three months on 0.25 mg. Do you pictures from any of these periods?

Don't believe that for a second, when I reduced, hair thinned. 1mg is the dose to take, or in my case a bit over. Don't cheap out, you'll pay more.

It's really nice to see someone on here like hairguy21 who encourages to use Finasteride if you're suffering from male pattern baldness, it is a good treatment after all.

Nice interesting story man!

So you never used minoxidil then? How old are you now and when you started having male pattern baldness?

I've think it's more operating experience to pay attention to your medicine. None the less we should ban this guy so he never returns to this dreadful site unless he gives an explanation :) death please whisper in his ear. live, I'm coming.....

Never minoxidil, too lazy frankly. Take a pill like a vitamin and presto, thicker hair for me. Key though: took it very early in the game to slooooow down the process and it has done just that. My hair looks like Clooney's in say The American, thinning but no one would think thinning. Credit it to finasteride, it's worked wonders here.

If you they messed up your prescription by giving you a different dosage without even informing you that's a very bad mistake on their part, I wonder if this kind of stuff happens with people who take finasteride for enlarged prostate or other serious conditions. Did you inquire about any form of compensation? If they were aware that they made a mistake by not informing you of the change then surely you'd get like a year supply for free or something?

Also a question; since you've been on finasteride for such a long period of time, how different is your hair now from when you started?

This is great to hear! I think I am a Norwood Scale 3 and I am about to start Finasteride. I have heard good and bad stories but the general consensuses is finasteride is the best treatment for hair loss!

As Illusions said - How different is your hair from when you started? and did you start on 1.25mg or did you work your way up?

I know you don't use minoxidil, but do you use any shampoos also?

Yup microdosing supposedly should work but in reality simply doesn't. At least for a lot of people.

You've been on it for 15 years. Must've been the longest time user I've seen.
