Hi, I just started ~.6mg finasteride/day (7 days today!). I don't notice really any dandruff, do I need to use Nizoral shampoo? I had some dandruff earlier this week, hit it with selsun blue and I have been fine for 5 days now. Will Nizoral make the finasteride work better or something?

Thanks!

hmm I think people only use nizoral if they use minoxidil as well...might be wrong tho.

A lot of people use Nizoral 2% people it helps to grow some hair on the head. Which I read in some studies but don't know how turn it is. I do know that using it alone will not help save your hair but use it with minoxidil or finasteride or both it my hair some what of your hair loss.

Nizoral will help you in your fight against male pattern baldness as it will inhibit the synthesis of DHT in your scalp.

read this.

Translation:
Ketoconazole = Nizoral shampoo
Salicylic acid = T/Sal shampoo (T/Gel with Salcylic Acid in the UK)

Quote from Dr Lee website: Ketoconazole has been proven to decrease the quantities of DHT in the scalp by helping to inhibit its synthesis from sterols.  Salicylic acid has a keratolytic and a slight antiseptic action when applied topically to the skin.  By removing some of the dead epidermal layers of the stratum corneum, there is an enhanced action by the ketoconazole in suppressing the production of DHT in the scalp.

Thanks so much for clearing this up. I assume 1x a week is the appropriate amount?

Like trent says, two or three times a week, lather the Nizoral in and leave it sitting on your head for a few minutes, follow with a good conditioner.
