finasteride with food?

My 5mg finasteride arrived today so I am using a pill cutter to chop each pill into 4 pieces. There was no paperwork with the pills, is it best to take them at a particular time of day, with or without food?

I am also using 5% Rogaine foam which I find difficult to apply to my scalp because I have long hair so I also ordered Mintop 2% topical solution. I intend using the Mintop solution in the morning and Rogain at night.

It can be taken with or without food.

I was told by the pharmacist to take it daily before bed, but I think the important part is to just take it daily at a consistent time.

Got to say I also find the Mintop solution difficult to apply with the pippette as it is difficult to get on the scalp and not the hair.
