Finasteride veterans

I'm 33 y.o. and I've been taking finasteride for the last 14 years.

I'm happy with the results and, until something better shows up, I intend to keep taking it.

Are there any other finasteride veterans out there? Is the drug still working for you? Any side effects?

I'm still a NW2. finasteride has maintained my hair but there was no regrowth.

Side effects: Watery semen, loss of libido. I recently did a blood test and my testosterone levels were low: 535 ng/dl if I'm not mistaken.

As you can see, my hair is still there! :) The hairline has receded a bit but it doesn't bother me. My crown is perfect.

Looks great :bravo:
It says in your regimen that you're on Rogaine foam? Hasn't that given you any regrowth?

I wouldn't consider myself a veteran of proscar.

But i've been on it just under 4 years and feel it has done me well, lost a bit up front but my crown is still nice and solid.

As far as side effects go i dont think i've had much if any, except a decrease in sperm and a small loss of labido. All in all im very satisfied with it considering my gene pool.

Belmondo, your hair looks solid. I have to say, I have the same side effects. They are relatively minor and VERY bearable for me if it means I can keep my hair. I just worry that it might be doing some sort of long term damage. You never worry about that? You're pretty brave.

^^If i could prevent my hair loss any other way that didn't involve consuming a pill, drug, medication/whatever, i'd do it but finasteride does have a good track record and even dissolving it in alcohol seems tedious to do.

Wow.

Weren't you the one saying you had absolutely no side effects and calling finasteride "the safest drug" you've ever taken? And than searched for drugs to improve your errection and now showing up with low testosterone?

I'm pretty sure it's the same guy when I look at that pic. His nick was "flavio" or something.

EDIT: There you go.

I already told you my story but this time I added some recent photos of my sexy head. I guess you can call it a 'success' story. Results were far from spectacular, but Propecia and minoxidil stopped my hair loss and there were no side effects. You have to agree that after 15 years of hair loss (today I'm 32 years old), it still looks good. So yeah, I'm happy! :)

Hi! This is Flavio from Madeira Island, Portugal. I'm 32 and I've been on finasteride (Proscar 1/4) for 12 (twelve) years. Finasteride has maintained my hair and improved the appearance of my scalp (it's less greasy now). There were no side effects, this is probably the safest drug I've ever taken.

can we not turn this into a side-effects scare-mongering exposing finasteride users in denial thread and keep to the point?

i was really liking this thread until that bollocks was brought into it.

And what exactly is the truth Shma?

Belmundo- Is 535 ng/dl your free or total testosterone level? Do you have a baseline level to compare it to when your sex drive was healthier?

After reading your post, I think it is fairly obvious that you have an agenda. Drugs have side-effects, it doesn't make them any less safe. Discounting the low testosterone (which may not even be a side-effect), it seems that finasteride has worked great for him for 14 years. Obviously his side-effects were manageable and the hair maintaining benefits were worth his negative experiences (otherwise he would have discontinued use.) I don't get why your complaining.

question for finasteride vets - i seem to recall reading from a number of stories that your hair will go in cycles of improvement, meaning things will get temporarily worse in order to make room for new improvement... is this true at all?

Without question I have had times where my hair has gotten worse and then looked better than ever. Definitely in cycles.
