Finasteride usually can't grow new hairs. But can it regrow small/thin hairs?

I'm trying to understand the mechanism in which finasteride works. I know that typically hair cannot grow back on spots which are completely bald. But what if you have hairs that are small and thin... for instance, I have a widow's peak now, but my temples aren't completely bald -- they have hair, the hairs are just thining and short. Some really really short.
Can finasteride restore shortening hair?

Yes it will but not with 100% certainty

From my experience, yes it will thicken vellus hairs. Hairs which have become strongly miniaturised will probably not recover to full thickness, but hairs that are miniaturised but not too far gone may regain their former thickness. I can't distinguish my finasteride results from my minoxidil results, but a combination does certainly restore vellus hair to some degree.
