Finasteride update. Mixed results

I have been on finasteride 1.25mg per day for 7 months now with mixed results.

My hairline and temples have continued to thin diffusely to the point where I have recently started shaving the 1cm of weak hairs at the hairline. Is this thinning likely to be part if the initial shed on Finasteride since it had occurred before the 12 month mark of use?

The hair on the top and vortex of my head appear to have improved. I have also probably halved the amount if hairs I was heading before treatment.

The one thing that's troubling is that the texture of my hair is terrible and unmanageable. Like dry, straw like texture. Is this possibly from Nizoral shampoo twice a week?

Lastly concerning side effects. My libido goes up and down but I could definitely saw it took a hit overall. One interesting side effect I have noticed is a loss of hair on my eyebrows, face, chest, etc. I actually like this side effect since it gives me an overall younger appearance. It's amazing how I used to have quite thick eyebrow hairs with small hairs spreading up onto my forehead. Not anymore. Not at all.

Overall I'm not very happy with my results from finasteride as I was hoping hairline and temples would improve or at the very least maintain. It's only been 7 months, so hopefully I start to see some regrowth/thickening in the next few months.

Ive just finished month 8. I shed horribly for 2 and a half months then continuously shed at a steady rate for 4 and a half months, most depressing 7 months of my life. The last 3 weeks the shedding has stopped, I'm getting regrowth on top and my hairline seems to be thickening. Dark hairs the same colour and diameter as my other hair are coming in at the hairline.

I was so close to just saying f*** it and dropping finasteride. Now it seems I may be getting my reward

Just stick with it 7 months is too early to tell.. it took 2 years before I was sure I was seeing results. For regrowth at the front I would advise adding minoxidil, it definitely helped me when finasteride alone wasn't doing much up front.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I'll give RU a go in the next 6 months, since some good success has been reported on other forums. Especially on the hairline compared to other anti-androgens

Same here it took me almost 2 years before I noticed my hair had improved a little. finasteride is best at stopping/slowing hair loss but unfortunately it's not a miracle pill that will grow it all back. Still...at least keeping what you have is worlds better than the alternative.
