Finasteride Treatment While Dying Your Hair

I'm 48 years old and I already lost a considerable amount of hair mainly on the top.
Recently I discovered this forum and finasteride and I'm hopeful I can stop my hair from continuing from falling and hopefully regrow it since there's still now area completely bald.
My doubt now is that I dye my hair since I was 20 and now I have like 90% of white hair and I can't see myself without the blacks.
I have to dye it once a week because I have the hair always very short.
Now what do you think about starting the treatment with finasteride and dying the hair? is it counterproductive?

Why would it be counterproductive? I don't understand... It could FRY your hair, using dye...

You've been dying your hair for awhile now and I assume that you are using a chemical hair dye. I have black hair and I've been using natural henna with pure indigo for my beard. Unbelievable difference from just for men dye. No more skin irritation or dry hair. My beard is thicker and softer. Once I start getting white hairs on my head I am going to use it to dye it. You should try it at least once and make the decision to stick with it or not. I will never use chemical dyes again. FYI, I use Colora Black Henna Powder. There are better but I am sticking with this since I am too lazy to test other brands.

Because dying your hair with chemical ink makes your scalp more sensitive, irritated and the question is with a more sensitive skin will it be worse for the hair to grow?

I've read about henna, but it's a very long process, you have to mix the powder, then wait 2 hours with it on your head and i have a big family it's difficult to spend all that time once a week.

The big question for me is:
I would like to continue dying my hair with the chemical hair dye and i know that can be harsh on the scalp and the hair itself (dry hair, irritated skin), can i have the same results with FINA using the hair dye??

I would have a pro dye your hair with henna. It's hard to get the right mix .My brown Henna turned my head pumpkin orange . And I had to wash several times to get it out to no avail. Had to re dye with another color. My hair hsnt been the same since . Over 2 years ago

There should be no reason that dyeing your hair would interact with taking finasteride orally. There are people who use chemical hair dyes their whole lives without a problem. I am different. Within 2 years, I noticed a difference with the skin under my beard and the hair quality. The henna I mentioned has the color already mixed in. I will be looking for a better henna once I start needing it for my head hairs. I used just for men and it took a few minutes which was great. I loved it, but I had the problems mentioned above. Henna does take long and I only use it when I know no one is going to be home for a long while. That's the down side.

Yes, and as I have 3 kids I always have someone at home.
I think I read somewhere that if your scalp is irritated it's more difficult for the hair to grow.

There's been a few times where I had to wait until everyone went to bed so I can take my laptop to the washroom and just watch videos and stuff for a few hours. I make that sacrifice because if the chemical dye did that to my face and beard hairs than it will most definitely do the same to my scalp and head hairs.

Even people who don't have male pattern baldness lose hair because of scalp issues. For the most part they can reverse it after treating the cause. An analogy that you probably hear a lot is that the scalp is like soil and hair is like plants. Having bad soil can cause issues with the plant and the roots. It goes something like that. Just look at all the stories on this site about scalp irritation/problems and hair loss. Either way, an anti-androgen like finasteride should be used as the first line of defense against male pattern baldness. If it doesn't work out then you can simply stop using it. Other treatments can be added while taking it.

I guess you're right I'll go to a dermatologist and start the finasteride, meanwhile I'll look for a softer dyer that can still cover all the whites
