I need some advice from existing Finasteride users, as I have gained some very conflicting information and questions its reliability.
I have been using finasteride for 7 months due to progressive hair fall and hair thinning. Ultimately I chose to take the plunge due to using everything else in my opinion without seeing any results. I was prescribed finasteride 1mg by my doctor and still continue to use it. I have not experienced and major side effects (although in the beginning I was feeling very drowsy) however have experienced a lack of libido. Regardless I am still using finasteride.
7 months into my course however and I have been experiencing an increase in hair shedding. There was a point at month 5 where I was feeling a difference but this was short lived. To do date, I have seen very little improvement but still want to continue to use finasteride.
Now, in terms of conflicting information:
My doctor: Has advised that I should have stopped loosing hair at month 6 (loss of hair vs hair shedding - need some clarification as my doctor’s perspective concluded that I should experience no hair loss at this point within the treatment)
Hair Loss Clinic - The Belgravia Centre: Also advised hair fall should have stopped, however I question their reliability due to their business practice and VERY EXPENSIVE products, which in my opinion is a ploy to purchase addition products from themselves (Minoxidil and DHT Blocker Hair Solution)
In search of answer to whether the treatment is working or not, I have come across a number of discussions, where people have stated that one needs to stay on the treatment for at least a year to come to a conclusion (which I am prepared to do). In addition, that hair shedding is a sign that finasteride is working and this is completely normal.
I understand that everyone is different and the use of finasteride will work for some and not others - however I would like to know from current users what is the real truth of finasteride and whether that my hair shedding is actually a sign of the drug working or if I should consider defeat :-(
