finasteride to dutasteride question

Okay so I have been on finasteride for about a year now and am about to switch to dutasteric (generic) 0.5 mg....

I was wondering if it takes time for dutasteride to build up in your system like finasteride had to do, like a couple of months like they say, or would it be like a "smooth transition" sort to speak because I have already been taking a dht blocker.


AND if it does take time, would it be a good idea to keep taking my finasteride dose AS WELL AS taking the dutasteride so I can let it build up in my system and then drop the finasteride?

When I switched to dutasteride from finasteride it was quite a smooth transition, I seem to recall I had a little bit of a shed just before noticing a lot of fresh vellus, but it might have just been my imagination (we have a habit of finding thing we look for, even if the don't exist at times).

When I switched I think I used the remaining of my Finasteride for a short period too, but I really don't think it was necessary. I'm fairly certain you can just start dutasteride after your last finasteride pill and be fine.

It's worth pointing out that I also take Androcur to reduce testosterone so my experience may well not be typical.

There is no reason to continue finasteride, just make the switch, and dutasteride will continue to suppress 5AR type 2, while adding the benefit of suppressing 5AR type 1.

So is the science behind this that since the finasteride has already been supressing 5ar type 2 that dutasteride will not have to build up in my system to keep supressing it? Sorry I just dont understand why my doctor said it would take 6 months to a year to see results from finasteride but dutasteride would be different, probably a stupid question....

Also, what are the benefits of the suppression of 5ar type 1 testosterone. Would that make my scalp less oily?

Basically Dutasteride will continue to suppress 5AR2, your DHT levels are already down from finasteride by around 65%, dutasteride should lower them by another 25% or so. dutasteride will start off where you left finasteride and replace it, so your DHT levels will never have a chance to rise. I will warn you that suppressing 90% of your DHT and both types of 5AR is not a good idea, IMO. Remember 5AR1 is found in the brain, it's role has not been established yet.....

What are these things I hear about dutasteride hurting the hairline especially. Wouldnt finasteride be the same way then?

Ive heard alot about dutasteride having a negative effect on the hairline. Can someone explain why dutasteride would have a worse effect on hairline than finasteride? I know it raises your Testosterone more but if dutasteride is more effective against DHT then I don't understand how dutasteride can be any worse on the hairline then finasteride is??

Some people think that T has more of a negative effect than DHT on the hair line.

What are your thoughts on this if you dont mind me asking
