Don't be sad! haha... some people respond to positively to finasteride. They say most do. Some people are just destined to be continually stomped on by Gods all powerful steel toed boot, as he stands over them and laughs. It's just the way of the world. If your hair is thinner after 8-10 months, and you see no regrowth, I personally think you should quit.

Just from my own experience so far, I don't think I ever shed when I was taking finasteride for the first 8/9 months. I switched to proscar 1.25 in november 2015 and ever since then have been shedding like a dog. I figure some of it was due to me quitting minoxidil, but I'm losing in areas where I never applied and also losing hair on the back/sides of my head which scare me. I've lost a great deal of density within these last few months all over my head. I figure this is either a real shed,Telogen Effluvium, or my male pattern baldness accelerating. I'll probably wait 2/3 more months before I switch to dutasteride.

^^ It was almost certainly quitting minoxidil, quitting minoxidil ulresults in nasty sheds. minoxidil doesn't just work on the areas its applied, it drips and circulates below the skin too.

I was back above baseline at about 3-4 months. I've had many sheds since. At one year, at 2 years, at 2 and a half years. Might be seasonal, seems to happen around spring.

There's three potential reasons for your back/sides hair loss:
1.You have run of the mill Telogen Effluvium. Most likely initiated by the hormonal shock of finasteride. (best case)
2. You have Chronic Telogen Effluvium. This may last for 6-7 years if you're unlucky. Get used to regular thinning and sheds. (you're f**ked)
3. You've got DUPA. Say goodbye to any hope of hair transplants or future treatments. DUPA isn't influenced by androgens and is largely unresearched due to it's rarity. Plus you'll go completely bald all over the scalp. (you're double-f**ked)
Good luck.

Kept causing me real bad irritation/seb derm. Was first on kirk liquid switched to kirkland foam thinking it was the PG giving me problems (I believe kirk foam has no PG in it unless its under another name). Tried lowering amount and using nizoral nothing really helped. Well aside from stopping it. I stopped using minoxidil about a month after I started taking 1.25 proscar.

Any advice? Saw no regrowth off minoxidil maybe it was just holding my hairs at the cost of causing my scalp to flake/itch and turn red.

Yeah PTBA sadly I know all about DUPA which I pray I and nobody else here gets.
