So I've been taking finasteride for almost a month and a 1/2 now (1.25 milligrams daily) but I am still losing hair. How much hair will I lose before I can expect it to work and will the hair I'm losing now grow back or is that lost forever?

Supposedly there can be a shed for the first few weeks/months on finasteride, pushing out weaker hairs. It could also be your male pattern baldness progressing before finasteride gets a hold of it. It could just be natural cyclical shedding and a coincidence. Time will tell. Give it one year and good luck.

finasteride generally starts working right away, the hairs you shed are probably the weak ones that are gonna regrow thicker. id say a month and a half in is a quite normal time for your ****ty hairs to start going to start making way for new ones. it might take 2 or 3 fallouts for each follicle to get stronger.

there is no science behind this. if I was OP i'd be very cautious if I suddenly started shedding a lot of hair after taking finasteride

I'm on dutasteride and having some vellus hair regrowing into to thick terminal hair. Funny thing is, they did NOT shed. If you look closely at those hairs, you can see the thin whispy hair up top, which changes into a thick black hair as you go furher down.

This is not evidence that a finasteride shed doesnt exist obv, but it did make me wonder. Apparently hairs dont necessarily have to shed before growing back thicker?

Really it doesn't seem like I'm shedding any more/less than I was before I started taking finasteride. Should I up the dosage maybe?
